Others commenting here are dead on. And sure, this policy might backfire, maybe even spectacularly. Nobody’s quitting with this job market unless they literally can’t comply. That said, it’d be smart for leadership to see how RTO played out elsewhere. But let’s be real, they’d have to actually care enough to check.

The reason why some folks are able to "work from home" is bcos their is not really real work. They just compile data and reports from different regions and report out. Moreover some are paid highly such roles. Ironically these are the people who b1tch the loudest now that they need to RTO.

Yep, it takes near zero effort to get a badge report from security.
It is also pretty easy for IT to tell if someone's laptop is in the office, out of the office, or on the VPN.
I'm sure someone is working on an automated reporting system for badge tracking as I type.
