Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

We used to care

Watched the new series Survival Mode tonight and it was about the 2011 Joplin MO tornadoes. I got to share with my family that after that event Edward Jones went into the area and hired people into our Home Office. It was an attempt to give back and give hope to those affected by such horrible devastation. It was a moment none of us will ever forget. We cared. What happened? Instead today we have become like the tornado and are about to devastate lives with all of these layoffs. There are so many people who are single or widowed or taking care of parents and worried they can't find a job at 60 years old to survive. Can you imagine giving your life for 30 to 35 years to a company, helping build it to its success and then it devastates your life. Hope we can find our way again, where we lift up people and care about them. Keep Ted's promise of taking care of those who have given their all for this company and let them retire without worry.

Joplin at its face was great, until you realized the true motivation of our beloved firm was to look good in the community while hiring associates for significantly less than in St. Louis or Tempe. Its still not a bad thing, but it was PR and cheap labor. Looked great on paper, until you realize its also a little predatory.

The old example of Ted defending older employees would never fly today. The CFO recommended they layoff some of the old timers as they were not as productive as the younger employees. Ted explained that those older employees had always been there for Edward Jones and it was Edward Jones turn to be there for those employees. Money was not his God. What a legend.

The company has not failed. Penny and the ELT have failed.

@OP I’m in a very similar situation. Too old to find something else. Too young to g to retire. Ailing parents, still responsible to bring in money to survive not thrive.

@OP this company cares about money and optics. They don’t care about people.
