Downstream to Upstream

Will downstreamers who changed roles into upstream have their PA tank?

D/s people su-k. Worked both, u/s doesn’t have near the inbreeding. Amazingly d/s people are proud of it. Every d/s exec I’ve worked with confuses winning the tallest dwarf or longest short bus contest with actually winning. Insane

Yup. Went from U/S to EMTE (aka EMTEch) and nearly got pushed out of the company. Solid top performer (but not HiPo). I was lucky to escape.

Changing roles from DS to US does not necessarily put you on Upstream salary curves. Depends on who owns your career. An equipment engineer is never going to make Geologist money. Sorry.

Moving from the job family you grew up in to another job family will almost always crash your ranking. Why would the new group give you special treatment when they have spent decades developing and protecting their own home grown people.

Downstream to Upstream not hurtful. Upstream Projects assemble new mixed teams every 3 to 4 years. No real kingdoms exist.

Upstream to Downstream can be fatal. Downstream management spend decades in one place forming kingdoms and alliances.

Those Downstream managers will sacrifice an Upstream guy in ranking sessions due to zero alliances, elevated CL, and significantly higher pay scale.

Only go Upstream to Downstream if you are HiPo or have a sponsor to protect you.

Similar situation here. Worst move ever was going from upstream to downstream. Didn't really have a choice but my potential is down, my performance is down, and everything suggest that is thinking outside the box is seen as risky. Gotta make yet another process to account for any little risk. Downstream su-ks...

Well I moved from upstream to downstream and it has been a nightmare. My ranking tanked and I haven't got a raise in 2 years. I was new to the group and f ucked over by everyone. Everything I did was wrong because I was used to doing it like in the upstream. My potential max cl has dropped and I won't see another promotion. It was truly the worst career decision of my life. My career is over at exxon. I am now planning my exit retirement and next career at a oil field service company. I cannot stand the downstream a holes. The whole baytown complex is so toxic. Upstream was so much better than this he-l. One of my friends was transfered to baton rouge and is going through the same s hit. Downstream su-ks and is a toxic workplace. Unless you are a hipo and move around don't get stuck in downstream.
