Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How can I compete with supervisors like these.

I have moved into a new group and am an outsider. Thew supervisor does not talk to me unless there is something wrong with what I am doing. I get no chit chat or small talk from them. No one else in the group speaks to me as well. Imagine my surprise when I see the supervisor chatting it up with the other group members. The supervisor also goes out to lunch with some of the other subordinates. So I wonder who is going to be the sacrificial pipee maybe me? It is totally unfair and fixed. The favoritism is so apparent and sickening. I know that the supervisor and some of my co workers have worked together before but I cannot do anything about it. This has totally demoralized me and I am just cruising to retirement. Exxon is f ked.

Well I will get out in two years. I am near retirement age and ready to go. I truly hate these people and the environment. I was asking someone what the lab equipment was and got no response. There is no help or working togetherness. One of my colleagues is facing the same problem in his group. The other scientists told one of the technicians to not share information or help him. Exxon is truly dysfunctional and doomed. When my colleague complained to upper management nothing was done. It is like exxon wants the ants fighting among themselves. I laugh when I hear weam and ranking is based on behaviors. A true joke of a company that does not work together.

Sorry to be “liking” the comments re: put in more effort, or demonstrate more courage of conviction (or I’ll add, influence w/o authority) but that’s how this BS will be spinned. It’s not them, it’s you.

But the fact is: it’s not you. It really IS them. Let this be your confirmation, you’re not imaging that this is a toxic work environment - it really is. And it’ll take its toll.

Get out and do it soon. The money may not be as great (initially), but your mental & physical health will thank you for it.

Years ago we had supervisors and managers from other parts of the company. It was a much better playing field. The new managers did not know any of the new group and came in unbiased. Of course the a-s kissers started early and made their way up the bosses as--s. Now they keep picking supervisors and managers from the same areas. They have their favorites and there is nothing anyone can do about it. It is a sick place to work at because the supervisors all protect each other and will sc--w anyone who is not part of the in group. I have been judged by these a ss holes for the last 5 years and it has not been good for me. I am not judged by my contributions but by my interactions with the supervisors.

Tax is like this. The supervisors are buddies with their people and hang outside work. If you’re not part of the in crowd, then you get left behind.

I am a minority and I am ready to retire. I am also NRE and don't give sh-t anymore. I just don't like the treatment or the fairness. I was also told I could not work from home while others are allowed to WFH. My every hour is watched and I have to use vacation or PT for everything. I came in early one day because I had to leave early one day and the a hole supervisor made use PT for it. Exxon is making my last few years here miserable.

Similar situation here...I am just working on my network outside of the group and planning to jump ship to a different org (or company) before too long

You are experiencing classic ExxonMobil pack behaviors. They already have a negative narrative about you and are going with it. They won't give you a chance to make relationships or prove yourself until the narrative gets "confirmed". After one performance cycle it's set in stone and then things may loosen up a bit as long as you know your place.

Since you're experiencing thi, you're best bet is to grab meaningful experience for your CV and develop an exit plan. You'll feel good about it

You need more courage of conviction.....drink more water from the water cooler on the management floor. Will give you new found inspiration.
