Thread regarding Ford layoffs

New Thinking

Our leaders are stuck in the past. Need new thinking.

For example: mandate five days a week back to the office. If you want to do four, you lose $10,000 a year in salary, you want do three? You lose another 10. Company could save money and get buy-in at the same time. Lower base pay means a lower bonus.

Mandates only make people feel untrusted. Start treating people like people and you might actually get somewhere.

I know the OP is just trolling, but the sad thing is some people actually believe wfh is the problem. Seems like they're just jumping on the Trump/Musk bandwagon without bothering to look at the facts.

As others have said, measure people on their work output instead of where they work. The actual data has shown that people are more productive in their preferred environment. And then fire the ones that aren't contributing, regardless of where they work.

Worst idea since Greedo shoots first.

Ford is doing this, over time. This past salary review cycle we were told to give those who are in office FT a larger increase vs part time for the same ratings. This has also been used for out of cycle increases and stock rewards.

It's not just Ford. It is everywhere now. Back to 4-5 days.

…If they start implementing video monitoring everywhere and monitor your eye movements and brainwave patterns, then maybe that will change.

It’s just as easy to goof all day in the office as it is to do it at home.

Really.

If you don’t believe that then you’ve never worked in an office.

If they start implementing video monitoring everywhere and monitor your eye movements and brainwave patterns, then maybe they will change.

Will working become that dystopian?

Is that just our TWA policy?

So you think people should be paid for where they work rather than what they do, and yet you advocate for treating people like people instead of being mandated? Ok, Elroy. How about this, give employees tasks and expect them to complete those tasks, paying and rewarding them accordingly, all the while managing them based on their individual performance rather than blanket policies intended to satisfy people like you.

Having been at Ford for four years, I still cannot believe culture. I've worked at several companies over the last 25 years and it's shocking. Form what Ford lifers tell me, it got A LOT worse when Farley came in. I am actively searching for a new role as coming in four days a week is not going to happen. It's comical since all of the developers are offshore in India anyway. No reason one cannot do project manager, product manager, product owner, and all of these roles remotely. I'm sitting in the office in Team meetings with these offshore teams wearing headphones at my desk sitting next to someone I don't even know.
