Any rule can be broken if the company wants you back. Sometimes they bring people back as supplemental, other times direct. It isn't common, but it happens.
And the other poster is right. For salary, there is no layoff. It is involuntary termination. Layoff implies they will bring you back when workload picks up. This is not the case.
the only people being "layed off" are the hourly factory workers. Anyone else is considered a termination. If you were an engineer, IT etc., then you may say you were laid-off but reality is you were terminated.

I could see someone allowed to come back after a layoff, but 'termination' probably not.
So I know of one person who this happened too. They had gotten laid off due to … demographics shall we say. Once laid off this persons knowledge was not easy to replace. Got hired back with a $28,000 raise and in writing that they get to work remote. Curious how the remote part holds up now.
Very unlikely. Anyone who says yes is full of it. HR and OGC upper management would have to sign off and that rarely happens. They don’t want a lawsuit because you got fired but then “oh wait” you are good enough to hire back.

They can make it happen if they want. So yes. But if they continue to down play Tesla's success in FSD and think Waymo is a better technology, someone will be buying out the carcass of the company soon.
After Ford goes bankrupt or gets bought out there might be a chance.
