First round of Sharp layoffs will begin Monday June 30th, with more rounds most likely to come soon after. They will disguise the layoffs as putting people on “administrative leave” as the attempt to avoid legal or financial obligations (like severance, WARN Act notice, or unemployment claims). Very shady.

@rc Union is a joke and a waste of my own hard earned money. I like how some nurses voted for Unionization and then tried to say they didn't "understand" how much those dues were going to affect their overall take home pay to help with costs for family needs.
@rs Yup. This isn't just affecting Sharp. More layoffs, more systems in San Diego and in the country.
My whole department was laid off, we were small, 4 nurses, non-union. Clinical Appeals.
Supply distribution is one of the ones that are getting laid off two people went home and there is more to come from our supervisor.
IT department here. Pay is through September 2nd is what we were told. Entire team was let go this morning. Severance package coming in mail via FedEx. Hope it’s decent since have a new baby.
People in inpatient pharmacy got laid off. IT had mass layoffs. They are offering benefits and pay through September 30th to circumvent WARN act notice. Please let us know what other depts were affected. This is a shock to a lot of us. THIS IS HOW THEY TREAT ESSENTIAL WORKERS HUH?
@rw PTO payout is required by law.
Someone asked about more waves, and our VP said that they had not heard anything about additional waves. I believe her. Or at least I believe that that’s what she knows, people above her may have more info.
Can anyone confirm what department they are in? And/or title/license/ they carry? This is so awful!
@rv Which department were you in? Happy to hear there is PTO payout and some severance to help float folks for a couple of months.
@rp it’s PTO paid out plus your severance. I checked with HR. I’m one of them. While I’m pi---d I’m one of them, at least I got notice. My other job two years ago didn’t give me this much notice. Got called in and was out the door at my last job. No severance either. Guess I won’t apply at UCSD though.
Are more happening? Heard a few hundred was on chopping block already.
@qy this is happening everywhere. UCSD had t heir layoffs Last week.
Does anyone know if patient-facing/revenue-generating workers have been let go? Such as nurses, technicians, etc.
anyone know about Sharp memorial employees which departments ?
Sound to me like SHARP has managed to fully become POS’s!! Assuming any lump sum payment in September will be any PTO you have left. No severance is cruel.
Anyone know about your PTO pay out??
@rg sorry to hear about timing and new baby! What dept were you in system services or application? So no severance after sept 2?!
Sharp going to FAFO! All that work isn’t going to do itself.
@rg Sorry to hear right before your baby! Which department were you in?
Any update on severance packages? HR was very vague and I was in such shock I didn’t ask specifically.
me and some on my team just got let go, pay til sept 2, ins til sept 30…im devastated i am having my first baby any time now
@ra part of the revenue teams. All groups are gone
@rd Epic implementation was a disaster and rushed. Consultants still on the payroll till this very day.
@r9 I agree! Leadership made some really poor decisions and wasted so much money.
@qw Wow- you all are delusional if you think the union can protect you from a layoff. Sure they have to notify the union according to the contract. Home Health closed down and union couldn’t do anything. All my union dues for what? Save your money for yourself.
@r9 what dept are you in?? I'm waiting to hear myself.
@r9 which department were you in where your entire team got laid off? I am sorry to hear.
My entire team just got laid off. I’ve been there for almost 10years. My coworkers have been there for 20+ yrs. The Sharp I knew would not have handled it like this and made every effort to protect our jobs.
I put a lot of the blame on the VP’s, they wasted so much cash on consultants.
@qz What department are you in
Any idea which departments are being affected? It sounds like IT so far? Anyone else?
Massive IT layoffs today "outsourcing".
My whole team is gone. Whoever is left going to struggle with the “do more with less model”
It was a last minute meeting sent and then called to join at 8am with HR. I’m in the IT department. They pay through September but did not fully disclose the severance package?? Only stated it would be a lump sum??
@qy any idea what the severance looks like? I think I’m next in a couple hours
Can confirm just got laid off today.
Fu-k this place. I work so hard there and haven't even made it a year.
All my co workers were shocked and thought I was sick or something.
