Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

Yet another class action lawsuit

Did anyone else receive notice of the Wojan v. TIAA class action regarding wage theft for FSCs between 2018 and 2024? Orange County, FL case 2025-CA-003720-0 for those inclined to Google it. I’ll be happy to add that four figure settlement amount to my severance for TIAA’s wrongdoing. Hey TIAA, want to know how to avoid getting sued? Stop doing illegal things!

Class actions just mean some lawyer decided they can make a quick million by finding some angry ex-employee to make some ridiculous claim. Employees dont care about this stuff. The lawyers always get most of the money. And companiws know they'll spend 2 million fighting it, so the lawyers know they'll settle for less and then the lawyer cashes a check for doing little work.

Damn. Pretty soon they’ll get one from associates they will stiff on with lack of severance payments because they have no more $$$ to give.

Heck I can envision some associates doing a CA for being forced to chose between relocating or being laid off. Not just the two office closures but the remote and smaller hub workers as well based on that other thread.

You can add Byrne v TIAA to the list.

I recall when everyone went to exempt, there was supposedly consideration in the form of an increased variable comp the next go around. But classic TIAA… the variable wasn’t any different or even less than previous years. TIAA - for the greater good! of attorney class action suits :(

That’s interesting because even when I was non-exempt in a role like that well over 10 years ago they discouraged overtime and I was questioned about every single hour over.

Since then and going exempt, overtime has still been somewhat of a bad word at the company and every area I’ve been in has had high scrutiny for any overtime for teammates and peers who were non-exempt.

It took forever to find. The person is claiming they didn’t get paid for OT but I thought those positions were exempt so there must be something else going on.

They also said they had to be in early to get set up so they worked more each day because set up time wasn’t counted. I previous company I worked for got nailed for that one but we were hourly at the time so that made sense.

There must be more to the story or they are trying to say the position should have been hourly but that wasn’t stated anywhere.

Any other details on this. What is lawsuit count for this year. Instead of the counter show how much we have gave back to our participants.
