Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Any thoughts on NXS/ NSBU future?

I recently joined in NSX team. Any thoughts on what will happen to NSX/NSBU after aquisition?

I hear around the team that NSX is profitable and doing good but seeing a lot of management people leave in the past month.

Unqualified opinion, but the core technologies of vSphere, vSAN and NSX are the safest of the bunch. It's the underpinning of our largest deals.

Going forward I suspect our on-prem customer base will be widdle'd down to regulated industries which have to maintain datacenters - they will charge a premium for these SDDC products but customers in turn will see great advancements in R&D and support. But make no mistake, it'll be a Cadillac offering.

For everybody else, we'll pi-s them off so bad with EA install bases going back to list price and outrageous shift to subscription offerings vSphere+, vCF+, etc that they'll mass exodus to the VMware Cloud/hyperscaler offerings with the long-term plan to get off VMware entirely (which isn't easy) will also be a great revenue-generating event.

Net/Net, our core SDDC isn't going to be for everybody going forward but it's going to be a quality product (at a price) and we'll execute well on making the main thing, the main thing for a smaller subset of larger customers.

Hock seems to be under some sort of Steve Jobs reality distortion field from Tanzu execs now.

Let’s see if Hock has the brains to see through all that smoke in the end.

All he has to do is look at the bottom line in 6 months post acquisition and sell them off to someone that smokes indica dominant k8s.

Time will tell.

NSBU is certainly looking better than Tanzu. At least they have a product that makes money.

Can it be even more profitable with 1/2 the employees gone and the other half 2x as productive with sh---y health care plans?

Yes!

Minimal cuts are in the eye of the CEO, no one else. Elon has given Hock some nice air cover, though Hock doesn’t really need it. He has his own Hanzo sword.
