Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Left a decent job to join Cisco

I bought the whole industry leader and whatnot spiel. Thought I was stepping into a place with vision, innovation, and stability. What I got instead was politics, endless restructuring, and a leadership team that seems more concerned with optics than actually supporting employees. To say I made a mistake would be an understatement.

100% correct. Everyone is more concerned with planning 'Cisco game' than actually working.

What kind of "support" do you think a "leadership team" owes employees that is somehow in conflict with "optics"?

This is a true Cisco employee. You can tell because they have no idea what leadership means and doesn't understand "optics" at Cisco are keeping dashboard lights green noting that every management team I worked with said "there is no metric for working code."

Here is an idea of leadership performed at other companies: when someone generates at least three years of bugs for every one year of "development," instead of having good people spend three years at a swipe of their career fixing that damage you fire the id--t in a matter of months and give the work to people who can get the basics right the first time.

Another example: instead of waiting for a project to overrun its budget by a factor of dozens and checks in code which is by every objective measure far worse that what it was supposed to "fix," stop the project before it's overrun by 3X and consider laying off everyone including two layers of management.

I could write a book here but this should give a taste for those with a clue.

wtf does this mean, "leadership team that seems more concerned with optics than actually supporting employees"?

What "optics"?

What kind of "support" do you think a "leadership team" owes employees that is somehow in conflict with "optics"?

Maybe if your boss won't let you come to the office dressed as a furry, I suppose that would count as prioritizing optics over supporting you?

The fact it doesn’t sound like you did your due diligence says a lot about you. Grass is rarely ever greener. Enjoy!
