Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Former and Current Field Reps - Job Recommendations

Former Field Reps - what have you guys been up to since leaving? Still applying, going back for certifications, got a new job? From my searches, most sites recommend sales, roofing, or insurance. That's depressing to hear. Just curious what you guys have been up to, because I need some encouragement.

Current Field Reps- what jobs are you guys applying to?

All of us current folks should be applying, at some point this job will be entirely remote, and the field numbers cut down to maybe 1 or 2 per market with more policy changes and procedural changes. Don't get caught by surprise at the next round of cuts. And don't get fooled by the thinking "they won't lay ME off". They will.

The last round showed they don't care if you were over-performing, or under-performing, a recent hire or someone who's been here for 10+ years. Previously it was based on under-performers, but this recent one was based on the most critical people of the company and those that didn't network outside of their local market.

Leadership doesn't care about you and wants us to give more - and we'll never unionize to protect ourselves because there will never be enough votes to start the process. So sit down, dust of those resumes, and start applying. We need to get out as fast as we can to let this company implode.

“ I don't know, your story doesn't add up to me, and it must be missing information.”

You’re spending too much time trying to be a detective versus understanding the bigger picture and what the OP has asked with their question.

And yes of course I’ve not included everything - like having your state representatives (my state, which is not FL) and a legal team involved which does wonders for earning what you’re entitled to against corrupt Nielsen.

Regardless, it’s not the question of the OP whether or not you believe (understand) the story, but what others out there have done / are doing to (successfully) move on from the company.

@av The only issue in your story is that you said you said no to severance, and left of your own accord, and then after you left of your own accord, you took a few months off and collected unemployment for a few months... If you did reject severance and quit, you weren't qualified to collect unemployment. At least you were not qualified in the state I live in. I don't know, your story doesn't add up to me, and it must be missing information.

I won’t go into as many details myself as the other poster - but do not be scared to take a lower paying job if you see there is room for growth and opportunity as time goes on. Obviously, don’t make a financially stupid decision, but I too (out of desperation) went into a much lower paying job and was promoted within a few months to what I was being paid at Nielsen. Several years later and I’m doing so much better overall.

@av Thank you for sharing. This is inspiring. I've been putting in applications to many places, trying hard to get off of this sinking ship.

I left on my own accord almost a year ago to this day, telling my managers and HR woman to kiss it and keep their piddly severance and BS when they attempted to corner me. Didn’t need it or want to hang around and be abused waiting for it. Best decision ever.

I started my time w/ Nielsen as a FR for two years then moved into the data analytics side of Gracenote then with Nielsen for my last few years there.

Probably telling this story here will give away my identity to those here who may know me, but that’s alright as there’s nothing here to hide and I hope to help someone who may find something of use from it.

After leaving I took a few months off and collected some unemployment $$$ (first time ever) as I took a family vaca and searched for a new gig. Was considering not going back to work as the wife does ok for herself, but a job in Parks & Recreation for a local government (state job) came calling so I took it up.

Honestly the pay wasn’t far off from my Nielsen pay plus the bennie’s were better. Got to work outside improving park systems and enjoying the outdoors. No stress whatsoever.

Spent six months in that role then moved over into a director position for their Solid Waste and Recycling division (much more pay) and I’m still there with no plans to ever (completely) leave. Work with great people and get to set my own schedule to fit around my personal commitments.

Glad to have landed where I did as the work I did with the Green / Cares BRG’s of Nielsen are in alignment with what I do now leading a Solid Waste, Composting and Recycling division. Get to still work with awesome tech (GIS, ESRI, ArcGIS kinda stuff) while developing my own sustainability program and $MM+ budget for a town government.

Best decision ever to rid myself of that toxic environment and move on to greener pastures.
