The Monroe County Community School Corporation (MCCSC) announced it will not lay off any teachers for the 2025–2026 school year. Superintendent Dr. Markay Winston said the district has made progress through natural attrition and eliminating non-classroom roles.
Yet, MCCSC still faces financial challenges. Since 2021, payroll has grown by $28.6 million while enrollment dropped by 835 students. A $22.4 million funding gap remains, and new state legislation could cut $17 million more over the next three years.
Dr. Winston warned that future staffing cuts may still be needed. For now, classroom jobs are safe, and the focus remains on minimizing impact on students.
