Any thoughts on what's the least problematic O&G company? I know all have some of the same issues that we do due to the cyclic nature of our business, but I'm talking about things that are independent of that, like how they treat employees, how transparent they are (especially about cuts), and if they promote based on merit or not. I've started looking for a new job but I'd like to avoid landing in the same mess I've had to deal with here.

I have heard very good things about Valero from current employees and from O&G industry people. Marathon Petroleum is not all that good, very rigid company with a huge separation between the workers and management. Marathon is based in Ohio so most people think it is a fantastic company but when the bought Andeavor the news got out that Marathon was a big step down from Andeavor. Tons and tons of people from Andeavor left in the first year and continue to do so to this day, there is a huge uptick in people leaving after bonuses.
Marathon Petroleum is awesome too work for
They’re all the same, quarterly capitalism drives everything. That being said I’ve heard less bad things about Valero and Chevron.
Small private might be better but benefits won’t be as good and will be even more dependant on individual managers, the good and the bad
I’ve only been with ConocoPhillips and P66. The Phillips Petroleum people say the same good things about that company. It seems the whole was not as good as the individual pieces.
The last vestiges of Conoco culture and values have been gone for over 10 years, and that’s a shame.
There was such a company but it merged with Phillips petroleum in 2002 and it has been downhill ever since.
