From Department of Labor website "The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) protects workers, their families, and communities by requiring employers with 100 or more employees (generally not counting those who have worked less than six months in the last 12 months and those who work an average of less than 20 hours a week) to provide at least 60 calendar days advance written notice of a plant closing and mass layoff affecting 50 or more employees at a single site of employment."

Laid off also via Teams. Given 45 days before official termination, but after 15 days all access (including email, badging into building, etc) were removed. Severance package was 1 week of pay for each of the first 10 years of service, then 1.5 weeks of pay for each year 11 and up 'til maximum of 26 weeks of pay. Brutal that some did not even get 45 days before termination.
I’m going to have to go ahead and disagree with you there. The market always reacts positively to layoffs. Don’t take my word for it Google it yourself you’ll find hundreds and hundreds of articles whereby stock prices have gone up as companies have laid employees off. That is an absolute financial fact.
Sorry to hear though that you were laid off. At the end of the day you will be better off away from the evil than being part of it.
Laid off black belt here.
What happens is you are invited to a Teams meeting; told you are being let go and not being replaced. You then arrange a meeting with security to drop off your laptop, credit card, and badge, and pick up your desk items.
The way they get around a formal warning is paying you for 3 months but not doing any work. Say your last day was July 1, you keep getting a paycheck until October 1. Medical deductions and 401K contributions exactly the same as if you were working.
It's a work around to support mass layoffs without making the news.
Mass layoffs look bad to investors (stock tanking), college recruiting prospects, government H1B allocation, DEI initiatives, midcareer hires, and current employees.

I do not like to quit anything and yet each day things are stacking up.
Better days are ahead… this I believe. 🧌
3M signaled publicly a few months ago that a reorganization was going to occur. That word means terminations. If you’re sitting there waiting on some big payday, think again. Get out now!
ATTENTION 3M SHOPPERS - -
3M is a failing enterprise. Any and all employees are subject to immediate termination. If 3M management was concerned about following American law (e.g. WARN Act) they would not have:
- Poisoned people’s drinking water throughout the world, including Minnesota.
- Manufactured, branded, and distributed DEFECTIVE ear plugs resulting in nearly 300,000 people suffering hearing loss, tinnitus, et al.
There are 10 million job openings in the United States.
What are you waiting for?
If no notice is necessary, what use is the WARN Act? Your assessment of 3M being an at will employer so therefore not needing to abide by WARN Act doesn't make sense. Care to elaborate why 3M does not need to abide by WARN Act?
Minnesota is an employment "at will" state. An employee can quit for any reason; an employer can fire any employee for any reason as long as that reason is not illegal, such as discrimination based on race, creed, color, s-x, national origin, ancestry, religion, age, disability, se-ual orientation or marital status.
Notice of separation
No notice of separation is required by law, by either party, upon separation of an employee for any reason. Courtesy and time to collect accrued benefits are reasons why notice is given.
Even though 3M is an "at will" company, they still have to abide by labor laws, no? The WARN Act spells it out quite clearly that a minimum of 60 days written notice is a requirement if laying off 50 or more from 3M Center.
15 more days of pay adds up to thousands of $ more per person in laid off employees' pockets.
Are employees hired on H1B protected from layoffs?
If not, this is a failure biggly!
3M is an "at will" company meaning they can let you go for any number of reasons and they don't have to give you any notice and you don't have to give notice if you leave.
