Microsoft Sales Layoffs - Cisco to Follow

https://www.reuters.com/business/world-at-work/microsoft-planning-thousands-job-cuts-aimed-salespeople-bloomberg-news-reports-2025-06-18/

Microsoft doing sales targeted layoff. Cisco will also follow suit. Discussions are being had right now: reorg, team transitions, territory collapses, etc. Ive heard rumblings GVSE (mid-market) will be most impacted on this one and then any high expense sellers in USC or Enterprise. Finish these next few months strong these could be your last few commissions check as a Cisco seller.

GVSE is a rotten apple
Too many people fresh out of college
Better to get tenured meraki reps in and run deals properly

usc is the most bloated org you will see. its vp is an imbecile who couldn’t sell a usb even if his life depended on it.
the regions underneath him are full of incompetent yes man who put people out of work by cooking up pips. get rid of it all and consolidate

What I’ve heard is Meraki and Account Managers are going to be up for the same portfolio positions. So no more account manager + Meraki specialist getting paid on the same deal. They are going to pare down each area. Across the board two people will be going for one spot.

So from my vantage point either outperform your Meraki counterpart as the account manager (which most AMs can’t because they don’t do anything and just ask for updates from their specialists and partners) OR find your next role either internally or look elsewhere. Cisco sees that now is the time to limit the amount of people getting paid on one deal. I have a friend in Operations focusing on commissions and they said your head would spin on the amount of people get paid on one deal, and a renewal opportunity is even worse. There’s no doubt consolidation is coming. Let’s just hope Cisco decides this for the right places, though I doubt it. Some conversations I’ve had on this since my initial post after seeing Microsoft news is that GVSE (mid market) account managers and associated specialists will be the focus as well as some management therein and some of the more expensive (senior) folks in enterprise.

As I said in my initial post, enjoy these next few commission checks as the fiscal year winds down they very well could be your last at Cisco.
