I work for the company and know someone who still works there. There is no HR in the stores anymore so I’m not sure who that person is referencing. There will be a meeting for the new culture (hospitality) reset and to announce the new store manager. No one not even management has received word from the company that the store is closing. The company hasn’t confirmed anything. I doubt anybody has said anything bc about dates because they don’t know.

HR told her friends that we are having a meeting to officially tell everyone that the store is closing. Seems like the people who spend all their time in the office with the managers already know, it will be good for the rest of us to find out what the timing will be.

@ds Macy's didn't relocate because the company owns that building.

Didn't even know there was a Macy's in Columbia until I saw the article about the closing, so we stopped by to check it out this weekend to see if we could find any deals. Macy's can't close this store fast enough, it was like stepping back in time. It doesn't look like anything has been updated since the 70's. The mall is dead, in a rough area, and this store is an embarrassment. I use a walker when I'm shopping and I couldn't even roll it across the crumbling parking lot that didn't even have lines for parking (I had to leave my walker in the car).

When I tried to enter 10 minutes after the store was supposed to be open, the doors were still locked even though I could see customers and employees inside but nobody came to unlock them. I had to walk around to the other side of the building without my walker just to get in. Tried to find help buying shoes but the only employee in sight was in the Jewelry department and they couldn't leave to help me in shoes and said they would call someone. After waling back over to shoes and waiting 10 minutes for someone to show up, we decided to leave and try Belk.

The store was hot and dirty and the employees seem to already be checked out even though the lady in jewelry said them weren't closing until January. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra distance to go to the store in Augusta, it's much better.

Wow! I used to work at #781 (Haywood) over a decade ago and Columbia Place was our “sister” store. We shared some personnel between both stores.

It’s going to be sad to see Columbia Place close. But also I do have a gripe. Why didn’t Macy’s relocate to either of the two better performing shopping centers; Columbiana Centre or the Villages at Sand Hills? I think the smaller format store would be an excellent replacement somewhere in the City.
