Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Can someone explain the Def Met meme?

I feel left out whenever I see a def met comment and don't understand the joke.

Well you are all wrong. Those who know… know. Lots of shady corrupt stuff. Hopefully after the dusts settled from all this all of it will come out and be exposed out in open.

You'll find one of the defmet PEs cruising the gym at RA - don't drop your soap. Otherwise - it's a whole army of engineers accomplishing very little.

I always thought of Defmet like fab KGB. You never want to hear from them. Otherwise you may be running experiment lots, wafer scans, and doing unending maintenance until you feel like a prisoner in Siberia.

Defmet is the irritable cranky ugly girl next door of Intel groups just a random everygroup that is fat and slow and can be held up as an example that

won’t get better with layoffs
you better get right or the chips won’t work
should be replaced by AI, any day now
was overstaffed to the point of worker boredom some time in the past

Nobody can explain the DefMet meme. Like Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy someone figured it out once so it got replaced by something more complicated

DeMet, Device, Yield Analysis and TMI are groups that monitor the health of the process - they ensure things don’t go south. Of all these groups, which one is the most important and which one will likely get the biggest cut ?

Defmet has some of the most talented engineers. So does device. Worst ones are the ones in integration. Honestly why do we have so many integration engineers? Saying this as a integration engineer myself.

@ae def Met might get replaced by AI but def Met will never go contract lol

They are nervous because they are about to be converted to contract labor, and eventually replaced with AI, once KLA and other metro tool companies update their analytics packages.

Plus they spend a lot of time out of the fab, with nothing better to do than surf the internet.

Defect Metrology, check and try to control all the sad process engineers gone bad tools and marginal process out in by integration, basically the an-l thermometer, bend over please.

At TSMC they are the unquestioned gods of the fab!

Def Met is defect metrology. Basically fab quality control. If they get cut it's over
