For those who have received a retention RSU grant, how safe do you feel now? Specifically what do you think your chances are of getting laid off?

Honestly, I feel less safe. That accelerated vest on March 1st (which is usually a year from the grant date was pushed up significantly) made me highly suspicious. My gut tells me they're dangling a near-term carrot to top performers prior to the blood bath in January or February.
Had that first vest been in July then I wouldn't think anything of it.
I think you are assuming that the retention bonus comes included with secret knowledge about what will happen after the acquisition. The bonus could be just to stop the hemorrhaging prior to close, or it could be a sign that those people are actually “safe” with a future job. Not sure anyone can tell you the answer there.
How safe do you feel assuming you didn’t get one? How safe do you think you’d feel with the bonus? That is your answer.
No one knows. Will be great to get the extra money if it happens. I hear (on layoff.com) that Broadcom has a sh---y health plan. If they also require me to show up 5x week in the office with an ankle bracelet, it is onto the next thing.
Jealous?
