Talkers ran Intel into the ground. The so called “Architects” and PEs of untenable and risky software projects and hardware designs with no defined customer base or margin expectation, have let their pride run roughshod over sound judgment leading to our current situation.
This while the boots-on-ground engineers and coders were suppressed and lorded over by middle management and their minion “drivers” and status checkers who brandish what customers “say” as a political we-ponry but don’t listen to what customers actually want.
Many of us will find ourselves employed at smaller companies in the coming months where repeating the contents of the latest industry report and attending meetings all day is not enough. You’ll have to be creative, take risks, and put those attenuated engineering skills to work to survive. I would pay to see the shock on all the talkers faces when they experience this… when they find themselves the new kids on the block after years of hiding behind seniority and pomp.
This post is a poem to all those at Intel who are shocked by a culture that discourages the walk in favor of the talk because of a long legacy of complete market dominance, where the product was sold with nary a sales motion… where corporate ascension was based on the browness of one’s nose and the size of the bus one’s colleagues were under.
The glass is broken, move on until you’re out.
