Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Ode to Workers

Talkers ran Intel into the ground. The so called “Architects” and PEs of untenable and risky software projects and hardware designs with no defined customer base or margin expectation, have let their pride run roughshod over sound judgment leading to our current situation.

This while the boots-on-ground engineers and coders were suppressed and lorded over by middle management and their minion “drivers” and status checkers who brandish what customers “say” as a political we-ponry but don’t listen to what customers actually want.

Many of us will find ourselves employed at smaller companies in the coming months where repeating the contents of the latest industry report and attending meetings all day is not enough. You’ll have to be creative, take risks, and put those attenuated engineering skills to work to survive. I would pay to see the shock on all the talkers faces when they experience this… when they find themselves the new kids on the block after years of hiding behind seniority and pomp.

This post is a poem to all those at Intel who are shocked by a culture that discourages the walk in favor of the talk because of a long legacy of complete market dominance, where the product was sold with nary a sales motion… where corporate ascension was based on the browness of one’s nose and the size of the bus one’s colleagues were under.

The glass is broken, move on until you’re out.

The culture is most certainly based on a mix of going from industry leaders to lagers and too many long-timers blocking new minds and ideas from taking hold. It’s hard but somehow culturally we gotta work through it.

OP, it isn't " attenuated engineering skills" that implies they were intentionally dialed back. A better description would be "atrophied engineering skills". Diminished through lack of use... I.e a 300lbs body builder becomes a 325lbs fat person by stopping workouts and starting trolling on the layoff.com...

What will remain is a bunch of good G9 and below ICs will be let go. Most G10 and above will sacrifice the lower grades and managers will take those IC positions. This means we will have nobody to do actual work and accountability. These people will act like they deserve to be here and laugh it off. So many PEs and G10 and above ICs and management are beyond arrogant and worthless. Take the decision making power from them. Every decision has been pompus and wrong by miles

i can name names who i know they know sh-t and are full with groupism. Those PE folks are grade 8 at most but have been here too long to have monopoly . They have a playbook. Zero knowledge but their managers are equally incapable

I agree whole heartedly. What has the pas decade of all the “mission oriented”, non-creative, ex-engineer, snap-judgment types gotten us? A 65% drop in stock price and the constant threat of layoffs hanging over our heads.

These talker folks have literally gotten rich while tanking the company, while the same salaries could have paid for any army of crack hardware and software engineers and creatives to truly bolster Intel IP across ALL relevant verticals.

And while I’m up on my soap box, did Intel advertising and marketing fall asleep for a decade+
