The talk (as most of you know) is that the max levels between an IC and CEO is expected to drop to 5 instead of 7 (which is the current case).
Does this "5" including the IC and the CEO, which means (three middle managers) or excluding the IC and CEO (which means 5 middle managers) ?
No hard and fast rule..some teams will be 5 levels some will be 6 some teams will be need more levels just based on. How they operate..I think some will have 7 levels too..
In our org its 8-9, and used to be worse, they already made some reduction. The two managers below LBT feel untouchable for some reason, so I really wonder what they're going to do. That hierarchy is terrible tho.
who told you 7, I see it up to 10 at my organization level, they have already made consolidations to cut 2 of those layers, another 1-3 levels to cut. It is obscene...
sr Director and Vp playing game- just put manager as ic and once dust settle again make them manager. This is told to me by my VP. I am getting converted to IC but she promised me to make me manager again after few months.
They are playing games in some orgs though.
In one org, what would be 1 and 2 below LBT are both considered 1, so essentially a freebie.

5 means between you and CEO, there are 4 managers.
Excluding CEO, there should be no more than 5 including you as a IC in the chain
