Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Does Intel really want to stay in Israel?

You can't tell me employees can stay job focused with what's going on there. Cut your loses and exit.

In My experience there is a lot of good engineering talent in Israel. Certainly better than most of the H1Bs I've worked with in the states.
Intel needs those people. Yes they are in a tough situation but they will get through it.
Intel needs to support them.

@ep with all the bombs going off there may be no campus left. Not a choice Intel has control over. Hope they have an exit plan.

F28 is the only site running full capacity. Most of Intel revenue coming from there. Sure- let’s cut them off! Will be in line with all the rest of great strategic decisions made by Intel in the last decade!

@da Israeli employees are average, but think they are way above average. Heck...the taxi drivers there think that if Intel is an animal, then Intel Israel is the head of Intel and all other design centers are other body parts. I am not even making this up. A taxi driver there literally said this to me when I was there for work. Agree with holidays and they also got a 5 week sabbatical !

I really don't understand why Intel is still there, as:

  • it's expensive, salaries are almost as high as in the US, higher than in Western Europe, leave alone India or Poland
  • it's politically and militarly unstable
  • people there on average while talented are in general really uncooperative and unwilling to to work as part of international team, to a point of often getting hostile
  • they seem to have a ton of holidays, and their Friday-off, Sunday-working system complicates things for everyone

It will be difficult to unwind as there's a lot of people and tribal knowledge there, but we should've started working on this long time ago.
