Woke up to a war starting between Israel and Iran. We have so much more to worry about than what is usually posted on this web site. The last thing the USA needs is for us to get deeper into this conflict. This is not what we want or need for our safety and the safety of our kids. I was a young boy when the draft for the Vietnam war was going on and I remember my brothers having to register for the draft and lottery numbers being pulled for those that had to report. Families were praying for their young men to be spared, and it was a terrible time for many a young man and their families. Some would go and some ended up getting ki-led, and you would see their pictures in the local paper. It was one of the worst times for so many families.

Dear @ha. Started my career in 1983 as a professional geoscientist making an eye watering $22,000 per year. I didn't cross over the $100,000 mark till 2000. The stock options and stock grants you take for granted, I didn't start getting till the mid 2000's. Made most of my money on the expat circuit working in environments your WFH lifestyle wouldn't tolerate. My "big" money came in the last 10 years of my career. Life improved even more with the change of control package I accepted in 2019. Use your head and realize that one's career is not a linear path but hopefully an interesting and rewarding journey. Your attitude comes from youth and entitlement. Let's see where you land in a couple of decades.
@ws , when I was a kid, my little league baseball team was called the Piper Alpha Prouds. What a coincidence! Oh, and by the way, yes we do know what you are.
Love the guessing, and assumptions of layoff, the lack of anything tangible with the Piper Alpha Prouds when I strike a nerve on this message board. Like children grasping at straws to try and get something to stick. No matter how many times you post the truth about Oxy, the denial and hiding behind a message board remains.
Anything to deflect from what you people really are.
You cannot force regular employees out at any age. That is illegal. Executives or others under employment contracts can have the age limit in their contract. That is fair because they sign the contract. Why aren’t people retiring at 60 to 65 if they have been making at least 200k(2025 dollars) for their entire career of 40 years. They must have mental problems, have mismanaged their money, or ran into hard luck if they still want to work beyond that age.
You sing the praises of VH and try to minimize her failure as CEO. Ironically, you actually make a case to jettison your beloved Miss Vicki.
Do you even realize that she is 65 years old ?
Get back to us with the details on how that transition plan of yours works - we're dying to know who the new CEO will be.
I have worked here for 9 years and started right when VH took over the CEO job. Since then there was one small layoff and a few VSP offers to Oxy and Anadarko staff. Sure she had to backtrack on a few things like the dividend, but I believe her when she says no broad layoffs are on the horizon. She comes out and says it whereas many CEO types dance around the subject. She has her faults just like we all do, but she cares about the employees and that goes a long way with many people. The only thing I wish is that we had a system setup to age out the older employees to make room for college grads and the young current employees. Maybe once someone hits 65 they go to reduced hours and transition to the youger employees, but still have some skin in the game financially. I am one of those older employees and it is hard to leave a company like Oxy with WFH Monday and Friday, and then every other Friday off. At so many other companies it is in the office 5 days a week, and all the commuting that goes along with it. It is really hard to leave such a great work schedule. We need a true transition plan so when an older employee is aging out they have six months to transition. As it is there has to be more than just me that can work until their 70's. All that does is keep the younger employees back.
@c1, I guess you didn’t like that last annual review you got. The only question is, were you able to hang onto your job or did they show you the door. My guess is you got a cardboard box instead of a raise. Pretty obvious seeing how bitter you are. Cheer up. I understand Target is hiring for some open spots in the sporting goods department.
Only people at Oxy could cheer a war coz it raises oil prices and makes them more money.
Only at Oxy.
Peace through Strength... The US has given Iran many opportunities to avoid this... But they refuse to discuss. They want to destroy the West. They chant, "Death to America". They can't have nuclear we-pons.
The world will be a better and safer place once these dictators in Iran are out of power. Even the Iranian people want them gone. They are tired of being oppressed by the totalitarians. Women are treated horribly in Iran. Most of the world is behind Israel.
Oxy was trading at $65 when oil was $74 back in 2018. Today, with oil still at $74, the stock sits at $45. Stellar progress, team Oxy — keep that downward momentum going! 👏
OP has a great point. Those were very anxious times listening to the draft lottery.
But sometimes war is worth it. The Iran situation may be worth getting involved if Tehran insists on messing with their neighbors in that part of the world.
