Valero is a cult company that exists primarily to financially enrich the executives, especially LR and GS. There are continual layoffs, except they are conducted in small numbers, quietly, and with modest severance packages to avoid unemployment compensation, or other visible metrics.
There is forced giving, including the required financial amount, to the Political Action Committee, United Way and numerous required outside of work volunteer hours, in addition to 60 to 70 hour work weeks. One should assume that every salaried job is 24/7. And nepotism of family members, for the Managers and Executives, is rampant. The indoctrination begins with the intern program.
Don’t work here, if you have a choice. And why anyone wants to invest in a no-growth company, that is morally corrupt, is beyond me. There is no business plan for the future. The executives are just extending their excessive financial generation as long as possible. If you want proof, review the SEC listings and see when a Valero executive took their own money to buy stock. The answer is zero. They prudently move their stock options out in a systematic manner.
