Thread regarding Neiman Marcus Group layoffs

Neiman Marcus and Saks had their time in the sun, it’s over now

High end designer luxury goods has their heyday, it was mid 90s to late 2000s, then it slowly started to fade and after Covid it really died…and now in 2025 most people are not spending thousands of dollars on a pair of shoes or $5,000 for a handbag, and the few that do can’t sustain the entire business. Luxury pricing has gone up exponentially since 2021, for example, a Men’s, Ermemegildo Zegna cashmere sweater in 2021, was $995.00, now the same sweater is $1,700 and that type of markup over just 4 years, eliminates a significant amount of customers. A ladies pair of Prada boots in 2021 was $1,050, now the same or similar pair is $2,000 it’s over Saks and Neiman’s. 98% of People just won’t spend that much, it’s over…..
Much.
