Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

AI will make this forum obsolete

As the Anthropic CEO said, we will have mass unemployment when AI fully takes over. In the next 5 years most jobs will be gone. Think AIaaS. Be prepared for mass LRs coming your way.

It wont matter what ethnic group you belong to. It wont matter how good you are at something. At the end you will not be needed.
Not all is doom and gloom, at that point just make sure you have something else to switch to that will be in high demand like plumbing.

AI is an amalgamation of all the information fed into it... that leads to AI giving you the "Average" answer.

So AI will become average intelligence. If the average joe shmoe on the internet could do it, AI will be able to do it but faster.

AI won't replace great coders who know their art. AI won't replace great leaders or excellent support agents. It will preplace all the mediocre Tier 1 agents, cr-ppy writers, cr-ppy junk screenplays that you watch just to zone out and forget about your day.

AI is foundationally average, and there isn't a way to make it much better. Even if you feed it the best of all data, there isn't enough data to make it robust, and it will then be too small-minded to think outside the box.

i think AI is fluff. it cannot replace human intelligence. sure it can do repetitive tasks and help do research, writeups etc but when it comes to creating, an idea, discovery all these are outside of its realm at this time. so be at ease people, the world is not ending and skynet is not live. when and if that happens we will have bigger things to worry about then BS jobs that cisco gives out like ice cream to kids.

the bigger issue we have is the absolute cesspool we see before our eyes. cisco leaders are clueless on what to do and it shows in their body language and decisions. cisco isn’t inventing anything new nor is it going to for the foreseeable future. every tech company out there knows it and cisco knows it. their only hope is to make partnerships with thebig plyers and seem like they are winning. in fact they are losing and will continue to lose for the foreseeable future.

enjoy the decline

within a couple of years, they should be good enough to translate existing code into formats and languages that Cisco's offshore labor will be able to deal with

With the number of branches Cisco has you aren't changing formatting or the language. With Cisco leveraging every quirk and bug in the tool chain AI which has no real understanding isn't going to have the experience to get from everything that is wrong to things that are right. Cisco's onshore labor is every bit as bad as the offshore labor they trained which is why the code has been bad for more than 40 years starting long before offshoring.

Cisco's "natural intelligence" hasn't been able to figure out how to deal with the technical debt built up over more than 40 years.

all of the AI coding tools are still in their infancy, you can't damn them based on what you see today

within a couple of years, they should be good enough to translate existing code into formats and languages that Cisco's offshore labor will be able to deal with

American devs are resisting AI tools because they are high on their own self-assessments...offshore devs will humbly submit and deal

3 months ago, this CEO said "AI will be writing 90% of code in 3 to 6 months'

Then 3 months later today, everyone thinks he's a liar and his prediction failed. Why do you still believe him?"

The new hip buzz word shalt be:

AI + Id--t = AIdiot

Usage:

"They are AIdiotics!"

"What is this AIdioticy?"

" I've lost my job and have been AIidioted."

AI isn't going to take anyone's job

Someone who knows how to effectively use AI will take your job.

AI can't and won't ever match a human's ability to apply logic, reason, morality, etc; AI will be successful where those things don't matter as much, like image & video creation, or where deception are acceptable and truth is unnecessary.

Cisco's "natural intelligence" hasn't been able to figure out how to deal with the technical debt built up over more than 40 years. What is AI going to train on to correct failure at that kind of scale?

AI can't do your job yet, but it can help someone cheaper, less experienced, and outside the US do your job
