Is Ford Britain Senior Management Losing the Plot on the Ford Transit?

The Ford Transit has long been the crown jewel of Ford’s commercial vehicle lineup—a symbol of reliability, practicality, and engineering excellence. But today, that legacy is under serious threat, and the blame lies squarely at the feet of Ford Britain's senior management.

A self-serving, collegiate culture has taken root at the top—one that prioritizes internal politics and mutual back-patting over product quality and customer value. Instead of defending the Transit’s heritage, they’ve outsourced its future to misguided cost-saving exercises led by Ford Turkey, where "local cost, equal quality" is the mantra. The reality? Corners are being cut, standards are slipping, and the product is suffering.

Even worse, rather than promoting engineering talent or operational excellence, the current leadership pipeline favors buzzword merchants—flunkies fluent in corporate jargon but lacking real-world insight. Innovation is being replaced by inflated slide decks, and results by rhetoric.

The Transit deserves better. Ford’s customers deserve better. It’s time for Ford to wake up and reclaim what made the Transit great before the bean counters and brand-polishers drive it into mediocrity.

As a Ford employee in Germany, I am increasingly frustrated by the ongoing challenges within our company. While Tim Slatter is often highlighted, it's clear that the issues run deeper and involve a broader group of leaders.

Key figures such as Hans Schep, Milan Shah, Dave Johnston, Lisa Brankin, and Peter Godsell have been instrumental in shaping the current state of Ford Europe. Their decisions have led to strategic missteps, declining market share, and diminished employee morale.

In Germany, the departure of Martin Sander and the subsequent leadership vacuum have only exacerbated the situation. Christian Weingärtner and Jon Williams have taken on additional responsibilities, but the effectiveness of this new structure remains to be seen.

It's imperative that we critically assess the decisions made by our leadership and hold them accountable for the direction in which they are steering the company.

Thanks for telling everyone you’re a fool. I’m an engineer that knows marketing. Marketing is easy to do. Doing it well, that is something I’m good at. But I’m an engineer too, with an engineering degree. It’s so funny how one person can be so many things, it’s as if we as humans are more than one thing. Fascinating, wouldn’t you agree?

Don't you know Ford has too many engineers?

Spoken like a true marketer.

Collegiate culture? Elaborate! Are you upset they are younger than you?
