The 5 S’s of Corporate Stupidity

Well today In staff meeting we learned about the 5 S program being rolled out across the enterprise.

Here’s what they are doing with this absolute moral ki-ler:

  1. No microwaves allowed in common areas. We had microwave on our area for over 20 years. Now people have to walk to cafeteria in another building to heat their food. Who’s the dum--ss that thought the employees were going to rejoice over this decision?
  1. Everyone has to put outlines in their cube or office of where everything needs to be. This includes outline with colored tape where your mouse goes and keyboard and Kleenex box should, etc.
  1. No one is allowed to have personal small trash cans in their cubes/offices. You have to walk down the hall to throw away every piece of trash you generate. I’m just going to throw it on the floor for Geoff Martha to bend over and pick it up.
  1. Everyone needs to have their space inspected against 8””x11” photo of what your space should look like. If it doesn’t match the photo HR will get involved.
  1. If you are an engineer and working on experiments with circuit boards, equipment in your working space it needs to be taken down everyday and put away. This is the best decision Medtronic ever made. It will improve work efficiency 100,000%

They can kiss my a-s goodbye. I’m out of her now. Was going to wait another year, but the wife says sc--w. They are treating people like monkeys at the zoo now.

Get out while you can! Never stay in a job that does not respect you or whom you do not respect. Start looking elsewhere...something better will come. One can only make a company great if you respect it, it's vision and its leaders.

Unfortunately it is true. There’s a 15 silde presentation detailing their “genius” idea complete with area assessment forms. Imagine a full grown adult getting a report card for keeping his room clean… what a company!

It was pretty close to that in areas at the Mounds View campus 7-10 years ago. No pictures/posters, etc. posted to cube walls, no unnecessary clutter on the desks outside of work hours, no trash/recycling at the desks...

Where are you located? We lost our trash cans at our desks like 8 years ago…

Also, engineers usually are never been allowed to ‘experiment’ at their desks, we always had to do that work in dedicated lab spaces.
