Do they pay you or they give you time in lieu ?
The other option I heard is "well take time off when you do not have anything to do"

Overtime? Sorry you're working at the wrong place. The concept of overtime doesn't exist at Cisco. Work is work, is work, is work.
Your peer who will work 12 hrs daily and weekends...that never complains or asks for some kind of compensation will not get raises, not get stock, and never be told "you're working too hard"
You seem to have the sense of the Cisco game. You are looking at this going...something isn't right. And yea, IT ISN'T RIGHT! I highly recommend you find a place that respects, supports and will compensate you fairly for your time.
Back in 2000s, it was common to work 8am to 8pm Monday through Friday, plus the occasional weekend.
It was also common to get an additional 2,000 to 3,000 "Thank You" Stock Option supplement, above and beyond your normal Stock Options. These were the times before RSU options; they were "regular" stock options.
Because of the above, after my LR, I was able to pay off our home and most of our debt; in my early 50s.
It was some insane and stressful years, but so thankful for the timing and opportunity to be rewarded.
Would I have done the crazy hours and extra work without the options?
No Way.
I do not blame the younger generation for pushing back on RTO, extra work requests. Someone is making a ton of money, and the upper management lost their way, long ago, on how to drive true excellence in technology; by offering a seriously potentially rewarding compensation package.
Not working overtime will make you drop to the bottom 5%
you know you have failed at life when you can't even crack the code of working at Cisco
after nearly a decade, myself and almost everyone I know check out in the early afternoon, are never "available" after hours, and have never been disciplined or even had it discussed
look around mr overtime, do you see many of your peers after 5pm? 4pm?
some people are born to lose
$800 per day
In SBG we had work over weekend for more than a month chasing some BS target. Few releases scheduled parallel, emergency customer release jam in as well. No compensation no nothing not even a good words from the toxic senior mgr who force these. What make matter worse we keep getting hit by team member being LRed.
I have worked in four different BUs - there is no overtime policy because working overtime is just part of the culture. Not working overtime will make you drop to the bottom 5% and leave the company against your own will.
Salaried employees do not get paid overtime?
