Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Job market

I know so many people who would have jumped at the chance to take a VSP at any point, but now they would refuse it because of the state of the job market. There are no jobs out there. Or, let me rephrase that, there are no good jobs that are willing to pay people what they are worth. EJ su-ks, but it is still a job with decent pay. Leaving it right now is just too risky for a lot of people. That is why I am worried not enough people will accept the VSP and the involuntary layoffs will end up being brutal.

" EJ su-ks, but it is still a job with decent pay. " It's funny that 2 years ago we went from re-evaluating the pay grades to now laying people off.

Agreed. I know people with a ton of experience at solid companies that have been on the market for months. Layoffs are happening everywhere, so the job market is flooded talent. Companies are using this opportunity to offer lower salaries because they know that job seekers will hit a point where they will take anything.

Is the job market really that bad? What types of jobs are conspicuously not available? I’ve seen many in my line of work on LinkedIn & Indeed. Am I just being duped by listings that aren’t actually real jobs?
