Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Leaders

Leaders who encourage you to apply only for roles at your current pay grade or below often have a narrow view of your potential. If their focus is on keeping you working beneath your capabilities — simply because they equate competitiveness with higher pay grades be cautious. Their guidance may be more about control than growth. Keep your distance and limit future conversations with those who don’t support your development.

Most of the leaders or middle managers selected for their orgs don’t even know what their org looks like. Lmao

PSG and PMP are just black and white documents for optics purposes

You do realize that this reorg (and all other reorgs) are facilitated by management consultants who use their own tools and own systems of record.

And post-reorg, your management don’t get a copy of “Org Lab” (the McKinsey tool used this time), with all the PSG ranges of all the roles. There’s no easy way to reference what role you applied to and what range it was in.

Managers and PDRs will decline your promotion by making up good reasons of how you’ve not been in grade long enough for people they want to keep down, and in the same breath, move people up for those they think should be the next MD.

If you’re applying to a career ladder job in this reorg, IT HAS NO IMPACT ON YOUR FUTURE PROMOTIONS. Just land a job. Best of luck to everyone.

“These jobs and PSGs mean nothing.”

Keep telling yourself that until you realize they do following your 2nd promotion decline. Chevron prefers to have people working 2 PSGs above their actual pay grade.

This whole thread is brainless
Unless you are in a pinch and only applying to placed jobs, there is no impact to your potential or whatever you think this is about.

If you’re a 23 applying to 23-24 or even 24-25, you’re not getting a promotion, similarly, if you are applying to a 21-22, you’re not being demoted either. You could even get promoted in the next year if you are performing at a 24.

These jobs and PSGs mean nothing.

Why are development and future even being discussed? You’re late to the party. Those days are long gone.

A lot of those PSG chasers who were able to grab a higher one may have "won" but a lot of them are in a pinch right now.
