Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

This is not the worst way to do this

I know things su-k right now, but at least some people were given a chance to volunteer. I know plenty of folks who will happily take that option, which means fewer people who actually want to stay will end up being laid off. It's far from ideal, but imagine if all of it had been involuntary.

Don't fall for the illusion of choice. How many of these people taking a VSP would have been leaving during the firm's timeline of their own volition?

And the comments describing VSPs as a way to leave with dignity and grace are absurd. Employment is a transaction and ending employment is simply a conclusion of the transaction. Voluntary or not, I respect people's choices and whatever shakes out for them. Do what's best for you

The original post sounds a lot like David Chubak’s verbiage. He uses the word “su-k” often. Very eloquent speaker. “44 gray hair with an attitude.”

OP -Get where you're coming from, but I don't think the option to volunteer softens the blow for most people. Voluntary or not, it still signals instability and uncertainty for everyone. Many who would prefer to stay might feel pressured to leave anyway due to fear of future rounds or a sense that their role is no longer valued. It’s hard to see this as anything but a tough and demoralizing moment for the whole organization.
