@e2 lots of companies seems are leaving Denver due to high living costs and taxes. I know Denver is an engineering hub but maybe they will move to Charlotte. They also have large engineering orgs there.

@16jy The FCC officially approved the merger today:

@16jy, I've read a few things in the news.

The former CEO of Frontier Communications was named the COO of Charter today:

Full approval for the merger is still underway:

Charter has been investing a lot in Generative AI, like a lot of other companies:

I also heard from a friend that there have been a lot of new offshore and nearshore contractor hires the past year.

Anyone heard anything new in 2026? This thread seems really quiet for one of the largest mergers expected this year.

Curious about how the deal is progressing since the government shutdown started. Feds have to approve the merger but all progress has stalled for a lot of other companies dealing with disclosures. I heard a rumor that Charter is mad about RIFs in ATL because they needed the headcount and talent as well. I don’t think further layoffs are coming for Cox Communications anytime soon.

@czn your dog whistles about DEI are a giveaway that you’re simply a bitter person who was RIFd for not being half the man and less the professional you think you are. Maybe you had done better you’d be less focused on DEI.

@f7j it probably is better to get laid off now when the package is coming from Cox vs later when the package comes from Charter.

@d3y what departments? I heard a few people were silently given packages but no word of actually layoffs starting yet.

@czn this post is less about layoffs that are or will happen and more about your issues with a former employer. This doesn’t help.

I am a former employee. What is happening there is tens years in the making after Mark Greatrex replaced Pat Esser who had taken the company from a few $B to multi-$B. I missed the Esser years. Greatrex could have saved the company if he was competent but he was all talk and no smarts. He and his team focused on DEI, sales and marketing. That was it. Late to deploy mobile by almost 5 years. Did nothing to pivot video to something like Xumo. It was 5G Home Internet from wireless carriers that came in like a hurricane and led to massive broadband loss. They talked about Convergence as a PR thing but they were late by several years.
If you go to cox.com/leadership, all of them you see there are incompetent and you can easily tell who is DEI. They acted like entitled executives and harbored a lethargic culture. There were smart people in the company but they were put under the bus. If you were smart and had an idea, then they wanted you out. They did not like people with ideas but spent millions hiring the big 4 consultants who fed them cool-aids.
My early years were really nice and I am disheartened to see what they are going through now. I still have friends there and all of them now know how bad leaders were. They made millions for them and left thousands of employees in the dark. Shame on them!

I read HQ will be in Stamford but will keep large presence in Atlanta...so maybe Atlanta won't be hit as hard and keeping some stuff there? And some orgs will stay based in Atlanta instead (and charter employees need to move there?). I believe Charter is big about in office with your team 4 days a week, if not 5 days for some roles - no exceptions. I'm going to guess some ppl will be given options to move (Cox to a large charter office (eg. Stamford) or Charter emps to Atlanta, depending what orgs they keep in Atlanta?). I'm sure if that happens that will lead to some ppl choosing termination package? I also wonder if some ppl will self-select to terminate if told they need to come in 4 or 5 days a week?

Atlanta will be hit hard. Anybody in redundant departments like HR are low hanging fruit. Hopefully the merger will increase profitability so it doesn’t have to go on and on.

Cox is on the receiving end, so there will be a shedding of duplicated roles. How fast it comes depends on how fast Charter thinks they can integrate into their systems. It will be far from pretty.

There will be layoffs and a lot of them. From the field to corp.
