Thread regarding 3M layoffs

3M Peter Gibbons - Not as cool as Office Space Peter Gibbons

Today he is “excited” to announce 3M Continuous Improvement. Aka, let’s lay off a bunch more people, I’m sure everyone is as excited as him. Disingenuous and tone deaf.

Sounds like the next failed executive initiative to me, Advance 3M 2.0. I wish I could get paid as much as Gibbons and Roman to accomplish nothing.

We are fed up with the abuse of labor. If they don’t give us more money then the entire group will quit.

hahahaha, continuous improvement, is this for the poor production employees who are being treated like dirt, incentives and small bonuses taken away and no hope of progression, no work your way like the wasters who are hiding at home doing zilch, it is time for the production employees to stand up and demand better rights and more pay as we have not had a real term wage increase in more than 6 years

What about the area LVS team? They are not making or selling neither. Just consolidating information into PPT files.

Absolutely ridiculous organizational structure to begin with. It is cost excessive, filled with too many “managers” or positions that make nothing / sell nothing, combined with leadership failures at all levels. If you are going to use Lean Six Sigma, start with LEAN. We’re past the scalpel stage; time for a meat cleaver. If you are not making something or selling something, you are on notice. We don’t need more analysts and we don’t need more PowerPoint presentations.

They should just close down EO, and return back to under BG led.
This tire man can go off immediately.

When rolling out the structure change (completely disregarding layoffs), Gibbons said “we will dedicate more improvement resources to our plants.”

Lie! You cannot simultaneously add resources and layoff resources.

I heard ~100 cuts in the LSS org. Not sure if that's USAC or global, regardless, it's a pretty massive cut.

I'm an BB in EO for factories and at least 40% of my group was cut. Some very competent individuals with extensive tenure in factories we struggle to retain people too.

Peter Gibbons talked a strong game of supporting the factories, but his actions don't back that up.

Shameful that they would market the black belt role as a leadership development program for top talent in the organization. What a joke!

Any idea on how big the cuts are? Seen almost every BB get unassigned today...

😊Sounds like a great idea!

Sadly, I'm gullible.
I bought about 2,000 shares of 3M @ $253/share and held on to them.
Dividends darlings for sure, but we'll rally after the spin off!

If I read this right, his org failed and he got to lay off a bunch of employees (some with extensive tenure) and now he gets to have a second shot at finding success?

Same old sh-t. Failing leaders not held accountable. Employees used as scapegoats.

If he laid himself off first, then I'll trust his way works

So is he getting rid of the 3M EX program? What a waste of money since this had engaged an expensive consultant.

Peter Gibbons, the tire guy, turns everything he touches into a tire fire. Continuous improvement may as well be called continuous disembowelment. Another 3000 serfs to the corporate guillotine.
