Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Medtronic Leadership are so out of touch!

I have to say, it just feels really strange when the president of Medtronic Cardiac Surgery sends out an email talking about all the great things happening at the company and welcoming new people, but does not even mention anything about the layoffs. There are people who worked here for so many years and gave everything they had to this job.

Every few months, the company is making big profits and we get these emails about how well the business is doing. But at the same time, people are losing their jobs. It just does not make sense. All the focus is on money and growth. No one even talks about the people who are let go or thanks them for what they did.

Honestly, if you are going to talk about achievements and how the company is winning, you should also talk about the hard reality of people losing their jobs. The people who worked here for years deserve some respect and a thank you, at the very least.

It’s depressing to see your work shipped overseas, but being told to train your foreign replacements is brutal. Your reward for exceeding expectations is speedy exploitation. Feeling uncomfortable is normal; resistance is natural and recommended.

In CST we did get an email about the layoffs but it was buried at the end of a long email about a reorganization. I would have appreciated more direct communication.

My upper leaders are shipping a lot of work to India and expects me to proofread all of their work on top of my day to day responsibilities. It's all about squeezing as much profit as possible.

Not a word has been mentioned in the CRM field division, carrying on as usual with new year expectations, hires and new comp plans. It is unsettling to know Medtronic is laying off so many people but keeping the other employees in the dark.

The company operates on a culture of fear. This was reinforced with the 1-5 performance ranking system they introduced two years ago. People can't say or admit anything negative unless they want to be assigned to solve a problem far out of their reach. Senior leadership and middle management especially are worthless -- they're just there to do stuff in Workday and other broken IT systems and spread their chaos to their direct reports. If you know anything about how the business works and you are a high performer, you are public enemy number #1 to these types of sycophants. These are systemic problems across all OUs and TDCs are are utterly destroying the company and rotting it from the inside.
