Thread regarding Ford layoffs

June/July - more rolling layoffs

Our supervisor just confirmed that this isn't the end. This isn't even the start of the end. It's just the beginning.
I fear for anyone with a mortgage - it's going to be bad. Job market is ABYSMAL and is flooded with international students willing to work for min wage and live 20 to a room.

Based on what i heard there will be. This is just a beginning. They will reassess how many people we need based on the backlogs/new features we have, and do another round. Coz everyone knows this isn't enough. Very unfortunate, I feel disappointed. I am always thankful to Ford bcoz they gave me a job when I was looking for one, but not feeling good about what the company is going through

Personally, I think there will be more, but I have no inside information. Just math, and enough time in software companies to know better. It's not fear mongering, just realism.

A week ago the official line in Ottawa was "no layoffs are planned". And now here we are. Between the FNV4 cancellation and uncertainty in sales forecasts, I think it would be naive to assume they're done. It just takes time to restructure and get a clearer picture on what they will and will not need going forward. So they cut now at a level they know they can absorb, let the dust settle, and reevaluate in a month or so.

suspiciously we were told that MJ would have a town hall in june to discuss the cuts. Im not sure why he would wait until june unless there was more coming.

This week was cutting those not need for KT to LCCs, in 6-8 weeks another wave after you are done handing off stuff to your counterparts.

Cut the cr-p - its done. Everyone knows it takes Ford an age to plan a cut like this.

Stop the fear mongering.

Its over for now.

Lets put our heads down and try to make it through this, whether you are with the company or not. If they decide for more layoffs, nothing we can do about it but hang on for dear life. In all of this mess, I just hope some of the executes actually get chopped themselves.
