Reality of the EV future vs wishful thinking

Add the East Coast to the now annual California outages and it looks like plugging into the grid isn't such a great idea. But maybe they can build a dozen more coal fired plants to keep America's lights on in 2025. I know... importing Chinese EVs will fix this.

People from poor countries want to move to rich countries for better opportunities.

Almost none of them qualify under the tradtional definition of asylum: being persecuted on the basis of race, religion, or national origin.

Their countries are usually poor, maybe have a high crime rate, maybe have an authoritarian government.

They should stay home and fix their problems. If they have bad governments they should change them.

But that's a lot of work and it's easier to go to another country that's already done the work.

So I don't really blame them for wanting a better life the easy way.

I blame the developed countries for ignoring their own immigration laws and letting them in anyway, especially when they come from incompatible cultures that prevent assimilation.

1 in 4 in Germany are economic migrants. This is happening in western countries for a reason. The domestic population is demoralized into not having children while the population is replaced. NGOs are funding this and are very successful at it.

In 2024, the number of residents with an immigration background rose by 4 percent, or 873,000 people, compared to the previous year, reaching a record 21.2 million. This represents 25.6 percent of the total population, up from 24.7 percent in 2023.

Where was your laptop made?

China's been watching all your online banking activity.

Your bank balances will go to 0 next week.

If you can't trust anything from China then you can't import anything more essential than clothes and shoes.

Which I'm actually fine with. We need to be more self sufficient.

Their electronics can be rigged (where was your iPhone made?), and those frozen pot stickers imported from China might be filled with Rat-B-Gone.

Why fear BYD when everybody here is saying nobody wants EVs?

We'll still make ICE but good GM EVs will eat Tesla's sales for the few people who want them.

We'll have products for everyone.

"Import BYD vehicles and rebadge as GM."

Then all of us would be out of a job.
Use your head.

Import BYD vehicles and rebadge as GM.

We'll easily be able to undercut Tesla on price with better quality.

Someone still needs to build out public chargers, but EVs work great for people with houses who can charge at home every night.

The lack of chargers is a problem for long trips and people who live in apartments.

Looks like the Engineers at GM have swallowed the ev cr-p hook, line, and sinker. Keep up the good work boys. Dont see any negative comments about EV’s that aren’t or won’t sell.

Yes! Keep making those POS ICE and specify low friction oil to get that .75 CAFE standard. All while those crankshaft main bearing are starving for lubrication. Bone head GM

Solar and wind energy is cheaper than coal.

That's why the anti-regulation Texas Republicans are trying to smother it instead of letting the free market work.
