It’s just not worth it. There are no rewards, no promotions, and no real appreciation. The best you can hope for is to avoid being laid off in the next round, which, based on the last few years, is probably coming soon anyway. Bare minimum, that’s all they’ll get from me. When it’s my turn to be shown the door, at least I won’t have any regrets.

Oil and gas as a gift from Jesus? Seriously?
I understand being religious, but this seems a bit delusional.
If Cenovus wants to bring out the best in people:
- Fire toxic managers.
- Put poor performers on a performance improvement plan and sever them if they continue performing poorly barring extenuating circumstances.
- Don’t just perform random drive-bys for layoffs and not communicate why they occurred. People will assume the worst, ex. layoffs based on age or some other factor outside the person’s control.
F*** the Pierre and the UCP. Go Carney.
With that attitude, you deserve to be unemployed.
I think the problem is that the layoffs in some instances felt like musical chairs. If you were in the wrong spot when the music stopped you were let go.
My past experience with layoffs was that companies would sever the poor performers and highgrade to retain the best people which clearly wasn't the case with these layoffs.
Our lowest paid person at Cenovus is still making more than many many people in Canada and Calgary who are working equally as hard. The audacity to try to do the “bare minimum” and still collect a paycheque is disgusting. Just give your notice and leave them. Some of us work HARD and want to because we want to actually earn the gross amount of money we make.
How entitled and cowardly can you be. You’re also taking a job from someone who would actually work and put the effort in. This blatant apathy is the rot of society.
To the the person that commented “Slow talking Big JM needs to get fired. I’m sure it’s coming.” You should be thankful to have a job. You need to learn the benefit of a hard days work.
Guys you must work hard to keep your job. We can’t act like lazy unionists. We live in Alberta. We ONLY vote conservative provincially and federally for a reason. We need to get rid of the radical left woke agenda. How can we speak from both sides of our mouth about not working hard. We all need to live by example. We here in Alberta are conservatives - so please act like one.
Below are quotes from our future prime minister who will run in a by-election here in Alberta.
Work is the only way - the only sustainable way - to escape poverty. - Pierre Poilievre
Let me be blunt, employers do have to raise wages if they can't attract enough employees. That's the free market, that's how it works. - Pierre Poilievre
If there are … who want to rob the livelihoods of honest hard-working Canadians in the energy sector, then those lawbreakers should be treated like lawbreakers. - Pierre Poilievre
Canadians need to learn the value of a hard days work - Pierre Poilievre
To the last person who commented on how grateful everyone should be for having a lousy job for a lousy company whose stock price was what $16 this week. You need to learn the proper use of you’re and your and you are. Slow talking Big JM needs to get fired. I’m sure it’s coming.
I’m wondering if we vote for Alberta / Saskatchewan independence we will be masters of our own home. Ottawa can no longer tell us what to do. Our future prime minister will be running in a by-election here in Alberta. Hopefully we will be a lot better off Daniel Smith as she is pushing for Alberta rights namely Oil & Gas.
Our jobs and industries will come back
I tried that believe me I did the bare minimum, pr--k of a manager just made life awful , the trick is don’t work for Cenovus ,work anywhere else
It's the oil patch, your paid well, people get laid off. Employees receive bonuses which isn't something that they need to pay you. You have great benefits, a decent savings plan. Are you worth the promotion? Are you worth the appreciation? Your comments here sound like your on the toxic side, you made it through the cuts be happy your still working.
