Supervisor at same CL

I heard from someone that if supervisor cannot go into my ranking meeting then he is probably at the same CL as me. Am I sc--wed? I know this guy is very insecure. I am no longer getting any face time with anyone up the chain. All communication must go through him. He rewrites and adjust my work. It seems I’m being isolated from the broader organization. It feels like I need to get out as fast as I can.

I 'm the same level of those I supervise (First time XOM). I met with the Manager and went over my recommendations and it went up the chain and came back down pretty close to where I recommended

Next year I'm going to create an email folder for each one of them and drop all the attaboys and shotouts from outside groups. I'll pay more attention on documenting the various projects/task completed so that I can properly represent them for the next Cycle.

Definitely a stressful process, especially when your team can hit all timelines and show good initiative, but the pressure can come down to rate lower. In a different organization we had a mindset that if you have an employee that fails, it personally should be seen as a failure on your Leadership.

Supervisors can assess folks who are at their cl or higher. If they don’t go into the meeting, they don’t have anyone to assess or they have a small number of folks they represent

Supervisors being the same or lower CL isn’t super common but it does happen more than you might expect. Some groups want to consolidate the number of assessors, so they might pick someone higher in the org chart to represent all of their people, regardless of the supervisor CL compared to their direct reports.

It’s also possible a supervisor could represent their direct reports in a meeting where they are also assessed and then leave before others are discussed.

This system is rigged. Now I know a couple of my “career owners” were about the same CL level as me. When times get lean, they help their buddies.

You think the higher ups are any better? They setup the system for all these mo--n supervisors.. Love yourself and find a more sensible employer, there are lots out there, in the Houston area especially.
