Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

Education

Just so you know I was told today that CVE no longer values your development or education as of this week. New strategy. They are looking for unqualified people off the streets with no valid experience or education to fill open roles. The d-mber the better basically. Maybe the d-mbest of them won’t catch on to the lying snake manager. I wouldn’t wish Cenovus on my worst enemy. Made the wrong choice!

Is this due to their financial crisis or the fact that most of the non physical work, like IT, can be outsourced to another country for a fraction of what they pay in Canada?

Maybe only at Coca Cola

I’d not be posting on here when the company can buy the Google web analytics data and see every user by location, IP address, and device posting on this site

Makes sense - no SAP certifications for those on CORE team building a SAP solution. Why hire qualified people or send them to school when you can waste tens of millions of dollars, fail, and scrap the project? Makes a lot of send to hire anyone off the streets. No skills needed other then…. Welll we all know….

So all of you entitled people know you can pay your own tuition and development costs, right? If it is so important to you, why don’t you pay it yourself?

I was sold a very large load of sh-t when I hired in. Not about education but about the strategy and direction of the whole company. You are right about liars. I guess I was a su---r and fell for it. Everyone knows the liars and they have no credibility. Keep your integrity and move on to a better company. Preferably know someone that has worked for that manager previously.

Why wouldn’t the company be transparent and announce they have stopped this benefit ?

Yes this is true. They prefer you fu-k up on the job and risk it all instead of paying for proper training and education. Makes sense. Only place I’ve worked with that strategy.

What happened to the days of updating and publishing a policy stating the criteria to get a benefit like tuition assistance or personal dev ? It would avoid the issues you are all talking about on here. Most companies have a criteria that is clear to avoid a lawsuit for being discriminatory.

Be sure to review on Glassdoor and the University Job boards so the message gets out to potential new grads. They are lying to people verbally in their interviews about this. It’s not in an offer letter but they will be naive and trust the hiring manager that is doing the lying. #sinking ship in a dying industry

Did you at least try to ride a big shiny bike around and take pictures of yourself on your bike?

They are paying the way of those they want to do it for and fu--ing over everyone else. Plain and simple. No way to sugar coat it.

There has been a lot of confusion about this personal development issue for the last six months. A lot of students are being told they will not get tuition reimbursement going forward but there has been no announcement of it. Speaking of snakes, some children of CVE employees are getting it approved and being told to keep it quiet.

You can be very successful without education and/or credentials, in fact that is that profile to be successful in IT! Riding a bike is more valuable!

Mentorship and leadership training for upcoming/aspiring leaders were cut/paused about a month ago. Don’t worry they have a succession plan!

If you are in Alberta this has been the case. They hired SAP contractors with no certifications in any SAP products. They most certainly have not tried to hire competent people which continues to plague them. Glad to hear they are doubling down in that strategy.

Hey the person who posted this is right. I was also informed that a certain development benefit has been silently cut or is only available at the discretion of a VP. Never heard of this at other companies. I don’t trust this company at all. They should be investigated for so many labor practices. Ageism, gender discrimination, general discrimination, s-xual harassment, accounting practices, vendor relations, and on and on.
