Sprite overtakes Pepsi

(Per Boardroom- Linkedin)

Sprite just pulled off a major upset in the soda wars—surpassing Pepsi in U.S. market share for the first time ever. Per 2024 data from Beverage Digest, Sprite now holds 8.03% of U.S. soft drink volume compared to Pepsi’s 7.97%, trailing only Coca-Cola and Dr Pepper.

The surge stems from a strategic brand refresh that taps nostalgia and Gen Z appeal. Sprite brought back its iconic ‘Obey Your Thirst’ campaign with NBA star Anthony Edwards and Sha’Carri Richardson, while product innovations like Sprite Chill generated $100M in year-one sales. Despite spending less on ads, Sprite is winning with cultural relevance and flavor-led experiences.

Pepsi has leaned into zero-sugar products to revive its momentum, but its core brand continues to slip. Meanwhile, Sprite is climbing—thanks to a youth-focused approach that blends sports, music, and bold taste into a lifestyle brand built for now.

I’m not sure if it’s our immediate leaders fault. Our systems are so bad. I don’t trust any of the reporting. All of the contracted functions are terrible. I’m lucky to get any replies at all from them. We bog down our sales team with meaningless busy work. I spend way too much time trying to get basic, basic things accomplished. No one knows how anything works or who can help with what. More and more work gets dumped on me. Total chaos.

call it shadenfreude, or the biggest "i told you so" ever.

sad that chances are high that i will lose my job after two decades in this company because of a poor leadership group incapable of giving us a true north and clarity in troublesome times, we're now in a dog eats dog world. Im happy to see these fu----s crash and burn.

there's this saying that when you join this company, a bullet is fired, and it is just matter of time how long it will take to hit you in the head, no matter how fast you run.

Bullets are getting faster and faster.

It's the chickens coming home to roost after 20-30 years of "if you don't like it you can leave" fatal leadership scorching the earth on the way out of the door...

with current leadership we can expect Pepsi to drop out of top 5 sooner than later. Change of leadership and directions is needed. As well as shake up of S&T not delivering substantial value and wasting company money

Nothing positive on the horizon for PepsiCo. Serious leadership shake up needed. Unless someone comes in with vision and ability to deliver … soon Pepsi will be out of top 5

"A lifestyle brand built for now." Seriously? What is this, 1967?
