I have been asked by management to take my certification seriously. Does getting CCIE provide an extra layer of job security or any status or it’s just a bunch of baloney and gets me nothing. I know many very smart with CCIE were let go last year. Thoughts from the trenches, sales CX and field?

A complete waste of time as are all Cisco certifications. Much better to do AWS certs or Google certs that mean something.
I got 2 CCIE at Cisco, free attempts and bonus, why not? I am planing to get the 3rd one after the LR this year if I am not on the list. The only reason is money, and also more things to be added in resume for next job.
If you want to push back, have at it. It's one less thing you will have going for you when the "AI" reaper comes knocking. Only an id--t would push back on that, but there's a lot of over rated, over paid "technical" people that apparently think this promo was because they are worth it. It was a setup for what may happen in October but WILL happen in 26.
20-30 Years Ago - Name your ticket!
I certainly dont regret doing it then, it kick-started my career.
But Today ? Utter waste of time in this day and age, and ties you into a single vendor only, vaguely somewhat useful in really technical roles inside Cisco (services, not SE), but outside of Cisco people these days look blankly when you mention CCIE...
Massive amount of work for dubious gain (unless you really love studying).
I know of super smart folks with US clearance and multiple CCIEs (both together would have normally been a hot ticket back in the day) who were let go when things turned somewhat sour business wise in their sector...
Get some cross vendor certifications asap.
After that heck Microsoft Certifications are WAY more respected than this old dinosaur cert! (and practically everyone's solution connects to Azure or AWS).
- Yours an ex CCIE (and a bunch of other certifications).
Id only do it as a Cisco employee since they pay for it. Would never do it out of my own pocket. The ROI isnt there like 10 years ago.
The learning process is worth it if you plan to work mostly on Cisco solutions in the near future.
But absolutely add some more industry relevant certs too (e.g. Cloud, Linux, k8s, etc.) to supplement
You better off going for Masters degree, or go find a school online that allows for accelerated BS to MS. Doing a CCIE was more of a personal journey for me.
It's been 10+ years it's no longer relevant. It only demonstrates that you can remember CLI instructions to configure half-baked proprietary features and protocols.
inside…. It’s garbage. Those who have it are thrown around and LRed.
CCIE irrelevant inside Cisco no one will care. Very hard work to achieve that not one will understand or appreciate inside and leave you very disappointed that all that hard work wasted. Spend time on your ppt and BS skills, more important inside Cisco.
If your manager wants to axe you. You are gone. CCIE or not
Most useless certification.
Waste of time - certainly anything but the security one anyway.
Sure, It used to be a hot-ticket, but that was decades ago when Cisco ruled the netowking stack...
Now Cisco is being replced by a boat-load of vendors, and networking has morphed into Cloud & Security focus.
Do yourself a favour and do a vendor independant cert like CISSP.
(Unless you plan to just work in services or the TAC of course...)
But even it's not important inside.
If there is some value outside, that's job security!
Cisco plays a game of having a CCIE very important outside Cisco, but inside…. It’s garbage. Those who have it are thrown around and LRed.
