Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

Another restructuring

I've been here 10 years and this is the 4th restructuring we are going through. Sorry GK, it's not the fields fault.

In 10 years our annual revenue has never been north of $7B. You keep bringing in our competitors people to change the culture and it's really the leadership.

While I understand the need for companies to pivot, it would be helpful for employees to understand what we are pivoting to and how employees can prepare for the next shiny object. Additionally, understanding why certain roles were eliminated (setting aside personal factors) would also provide those who are still with the company a better understanding of company goals (aside from the random $10B) and increase trust in the executive team.

I am honestly shocked at who was let go. It makes me angry. It really shows a lack of understanding. These were good people and now who is going to do the work? I agree, I have no faith in GK, Cesar and the more I hear about Gabriel the more I am baffled as to how he still works here. I guess HR is okay with this. It seems no plan is every fully executed but the people doing the work get the blame for the mistakes of these d-mb leaders.

My colleague who was let go is an overachiever, knows his stuff and goes above and beyond. WTF? It makes me feel even more worried.

My theory is in the new NetApp that managers with the WORST Pulse surveys are rewarded for being so badass and Elon like. This new HR team is probably coaching everyone on how to be aholes.

If I was offered a package, I would go. NetApp is not going to be a nice company again. I will try find a new job as soon as I can and maybe cash out my last RSU. I do think NetApp is as bad as Amazon now.

I am sorry for all of you laid off. You don’t deserve it. I am sorry for all of us still here.

Stop working and coast, what are they going to do? Lay you off? Do sweet fu-k all. Let bullsh-t targets be missed. They've shown us if we work or not, it matters naught. Conserve your savings and stack cash whilst this ship sinks.

We all know HR will read the comments here. Let's hope they summarise it for GK and he understands how he has ruined NetApp with ex-Microsoft employees and the annual restructuring exercise - aka layoffs. Talking about momentum and pulling the emergency brake every 12 months seems cynical.

How many Dollars did NetApp waste for SolidFire? HCI? Spot? Countless cloud offerings? And then there is GK who talks about stupid science projects if engineering tries to innovate instead of just burning hundreds of millions of Dollars.

I also left NetApp on my own because I believed that this awful company culture cannot exist in every company and I was right!

Gabriel, Cesar, GK… all awful and care more about their shares than people. My 5 year old could run the company better!

Can’t wait to hear Cesar word vomit and drool on himself in two weeks trying to motivate us to give a s-hit

from blocks and files

https://blocksandfiles.com/2025/04/30/netapp-making-layoffs/

A company statement said: “NetApp is implementing a strategic organizational realignment to better position the company for long-term growth and operational efficiency. The company is optimizing cost structures, streamlining work processes, and cultivating critical capabilities across the organization.

“These efforts are designed to strengthen NetApp’s ability to serve customers, innovate at scale, and respond to fast-moving industry dynamics, including the rapid rise of AI, and reflect the evolving needs of the business. NetApp remains committed to supporting its employees, customers, and stakeholders during this transition and is taking thoughtful steps to ensure the company is positioned to meet future demands and deliver sustainable value.”

We have been told of a 6 percent workforce cut, which would equate to around 700 people.

I'll go on to say, Ops VP Bill Berg needs to go.
He refuses to rehire ex-NetAppers and instead satisfied with hiring fresh (not the best) leaders.

I left NetApp already a couple of years ago but I could not agree more. I left because I got a call from a headhunter to join another tech company but the leadership problem at NetApp was also part of the decision process.
