I wonder if the bean counters overruled the engineers because the part was cheaper.

MBAs are the worst thing that happened to American companies over the last 30 years.

Short term thinking and penny wise and pound foolish decisions.

And the workers at the bottom of the ladder and consumers pay the price.

I was razed the entire first 10 years at GM while I drove a Jeep. I eventually got ride of the jeep with 258,000 miles with new tires, No rust, but a broke valve spring. I then decided to buy my first brand new GM vehicle which after just 9,000 miles had to have a new motor put in. As an Engineer, I questioned what happened to the engine and was never given an answer. I sold that to buy another new GM truck. Two years later, I sold that truck and bought its replacement. I had just paid that truck off and headed towards retirement with the VSP buy out when at 37,000 miles (just past warranty), the AC went out. I had a top-notch mechanic friend spend 3 weeks looking into the issue. With the help of a computer hooked up to my truck he pinned pointed the issue to a bad wire harness. His estimate with labor and parts would be ball park $5k. So after just paying this truck off and taking it into retirement, I now had a $5k bill waiting for me. I turned it in and got another brand new Jeep.

The bean counters ruined Boeing the same way once the engineers weren't running things anymore.

When the engineers were running things, Boeing was the envy of the world.

Another aspect of non GM vehicles is that GM uses many vendors. Many of these positions are low paid, and those people are not in a position to purchase another car.
I was in management with a vendor, made a good wage, but no GM vehicles interested me.

Thanks, Global Propulsion Systems. Another job well done. Did you validate your new low-cost components? Irony abounds!

What would a 700,000 unit EV recall look like? LOL, that's the future.

My guess is the bean counters caused this. Keep the accountants out of good engineering and quality decisions.

EVs are here to stay like it or not. GM pivoted away from commitment to them as MB has no balz. All while not trying to build the best ICE. Ok, if no EV and cr-ppy ICE then what? You have to commit to something

So a third of the employees have integrity and don't give in to bullying.

The other two thirds don't, and do.

I always wondered if GM would still be in business without employee sales. Many would not drive GM if they didn’t feel pressured/ obligated.
Take a drive around the Tech Center. I would estimate about 1 / 3 of the vehicles on site are non GM.

I'm sure that won't affect our financials.

How does stuff like this keep happening?
