Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Announced verbally: A3M being dissolved

Meetings this last week consisted of leadership from both Enterprise Ops and BG Ops informing their direct reports that A3M will be reversed back to pre-A3M but they don’t know how it will look now that both Ops added people to fill the lanes of work. Nothing in writing yet so that they can make changes and develop the new org charts. Anyone hear any other details? Probably more layoffs or shuffling? Maybe Spinco will be an opportunity to move people into?

The sourcing organization is also getting the restructuring, starting with voluntary resignation packages. There is a lot of change continuing to happen, sadly.

It is a pity that CEOs and CFOs are empowered to destroy lives and businesses with virtually no consequences. I strongly believe in capitalism; however, I strongly disagree with rewarding malfeasance, corruption, ineptitude, and pestilence with any kind of parachute 🪂, golden or otherwise.

massive decisions in UK, looks like massive layoffs and maybe a couple of plant closures although the Ireland plant will be given more volume to grow. The only good news is that in the UK , the workers have strong unions that will mean fair settlements when layoffs start.

@Varys

I object to your ongoing attacks directed at people who allege harm as a result of:

  1. 3M manufactured, branded, and distributed, Per- and Polyfluorinated Substances (PFAS). Results - potable water contamination in the United States and in several countries.
  1. 3M manufactured, branded, and distributed Combat Arms Earplugs.

Why do you find it necessary to question the integrity of alleged victims while remaining silent on the abuse handed down by Roman and Patolawala?

@Word of Caution

Roman, Patolawala, and all other members of the failed “leadership team” have been uncooperative, untruthful, manipulative, and flagrantly disrespectful toward the women and men of 3M Company. If your organization was open and honest, people would not flock to an Internet website for scraps of information.

You land here with the unmitigated gall to tell people who are scared and concerned about their families future, what they should communicate? You’ve got a lot of nerve.

Run along now and tell your 3M masters what wonderful jobs they doing. After all, that is your role as a sycophant.

Are you worried that your share holding would be further eroded if more negative news are being shared openly here?

Umm, you are just a little late. The "confidential internal 3M information" ship sailed away long, long ago.

At this point half the posts here are would meet "3M Confidential" standards and a few would definitely clear the "3M Restricted" line.

The other half of the posts are blatant trolls or people trying to play up the lawsuit victim card.

Frankly we need more of this 'confidential' information in the open. It is the only way to hold the failed executive leadership accountable. Nobody here is spilling technical trade secrets or product pricing strategies. We're pointing out decisions our leaders should be proud of, and if they are not proud of their work that is their problem.

It was announced in CBG that A3M is dissolving and we will be going back to the structure before A3M. Timing and org charts will be announced once they figure it out. Nothing in writing yet. It was said that this reversal mostly affects St. Paul center people and not plants.

I agree with an earlier post. MR will not admit defeat on A3M. It was basically undone for HCBG because it didn’t fit the business model, but the claim was it was working well for other businesses. The reversal will likely stop there for now. MR is too close for the end for him to make a move that would basically be a concession that his stamp on 3M was a massive and unmitigated flop.

A3m going nowhere. Its romans swan song. Once he pulls the cord on his golden parachute he won’t care what happens. Like the one before him. And the one before him. And the one before him. You get the picture…..

So many executive level people will not be eliminated. Maybe a few will be canned as a symbolic gesture.

Old boy school nepotism still runs deep in 3M. It does not matter what you do in 3M, it matters whom you know. Buddies will always look out for their buddies !

What will happen to the Area LVS group that was created under the name of A3M? Will that big group still keep their jobs, or will they be dissolved?

It comes as no surprise that Roman and Patolawala are crawfishing on the failed A3M and will undoubtedly use their failure of leadership as an opportunity to eliminate more jobs. As previously pointed out, the market will react favorably to job cuts, raising the stock price (artificially) enabling the evildoers to pay out a fourth quarter dividend. Moreover, Roman and Patolawala will secure their individual 2022 performance bonus. The handwriting has been on the wall for years and waiting around with the mentality of, “I hope it won’t be me” is foolishness.

Comment from a business perspective: Recalling the A3M intro years ago and a conversation I had with my then Director (good person). I told this person that once implemented into a "global subsidiary structured corporation" it would do nothing but create more bureaucracy. My Director was surprised at my pessimism. My point in the conversation was A3M would do nothing to dismantle the local geographical fiefdoms it was claiming to. To this day, global business / portfolio managers are held responsible and accountable for results, but do not have global authority or empowerment. It also made the Managing Director position into a fluffy extremely overpaid job with no real responsibilities. A3M IMO is a rainbow and unicorn strategy that ended up being a collosal waste of money.

It would be a giant leap forward & morale boost for Roman to publicly verify this and own the utter disaster known as A3M.
