I have a family member that works there and they sent them this in an email they sent out yesterday:

“They will be considered for other positions within the company if they express an interest and are qualified for the role, or we will assist them with outplacement services to help them find their next career path.” …

“This was not an effort to reduce the size of our team or a cost-cutting effort - rather, we are moving toward new technology solutions that require certain skill sets. We have identified those talents in the remaining team and we will also be recruiting new team members who have the skills and experience needed for the work ahead.

This comes after a year of feedback from team members across IT about what they want to build for our future. Their desire to supercharge our international growth, customer experiences, and operational efficiency means we have to quickly get the right skill sets on board.”

Don't forget they announced a huge stock split last month....who wants to follow the money...https://corporate.oreillyauto.com/2025/03/13/oreilly-automotive-inc-board-of-directors-approves-15-for-1-stock-split-subject-to-shareholder-approval-of-an-increase-in-the-number-of-authorized-shares-of-common-stock/

Family member was laid off, always had excellent reviews and performance. They did offer severance packages, pretty weak ones in these times. 30% of the department he was managing was laid off, 11% of the entire IT company.

Y’all. This is because of trump. Lol. I know some of you don’t want to hear it, but this is tariffs in action.

Canada and Mexico are major sources of parts for them. Further the trucking industry is being hit hard (which transports these goods). (In case you don’t know, they are arresting truckers who don’t speak English well. Literally.. literacy tests at weigh stations.) In addition, they are deporting folks left and right, too. This is mainly impacting food/farming, but some of these same companies that transport goods across the country are hurting for labor. The entire transportation chain is being disrupted AND tariffs will make their price of goods higher.

It’s logical that they have layoffs.

From yahoo : “ O'Reilly sources a significant portion of its products from China and Mexico, two of the countries hardest hit by tariffs, with levies on Chinese imports amounting to 145%.

The Springfield, Missouri-based company reported a profit of $9.35 per share in the first quarter ended March 31, compared with analysts' estimates of $9.86 per share, according to data compiled by LSEG.”

Can anyone confirm whether or not the company actually gave severance packages? I know many people who were let go were very skilled IT people. So the company clearly did not get rid of “low performing individuals” as they said in a statement to the local news outlet.

There was no mention of offshoring, or any of that. Supposedly O'Reilly is doing the best it's ever been, and it wasn't done because of "cuts or budget reduction"

You mean send the work to India?

“Those that were laid off were said to be low performers or didn't have the skillset needed for a shift in IT strategy.”

Family member of mine was laid off and they always received high performance evaluations so the comment about low performers is nonsense.
