Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Just got walked out the door after 20+ years

Being purposely vague to hide my identity. It's hard but to be angry. I'm a high achiever. I don't get it.

Since I was laid off I have not found a single person who did not do better in life, not a single person has told me that they wished that they were working back at ford, so life only gets better from here. Move on, there is an opportunity out there waiting for you. Good luck and never ever look back.

I see the writing on the wall also. It has nothing to do with performance.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I hope you find a new job soon or are able to retire.

It has to do with your salary, pension (if you have one), and age. Performance did not play a role. Let's not forget the poor leadership decisions and current economic environment.

I was also 'released' a few years back but ended up OK.

Only age matters.

Ford doesn’t want older people even if their education is recent and their experience vast directly applicable.

The job can be a perfect fit yet… over 50 need not apply.

You young pups remember that 20 years from now when it’s YOU they’re coming after.

Fix it now.

Good point. U end up holding a non transferable bag of experience. Things can change but for now it’s important because we sometimes get comfortable and when we are much older and don’t carry the experience who will let us bring that bag?

I would also encourage anyone considering a technical career to stay far, far away from Ford and SE MI.

Look what they do to you when you get older. It's not a matter of performance. It's strictly a matter of age.

Hope everyone who gets laid off tells anyone who will listen about what Ford is doing with these layoffs and encourage them to never buy Ford products again.

As a shareholder, I rejoice the dismissal of every overpaid and underperforming American. Outsource everything

Sorry to hear that. I was "early retired" 2 yrs ago. TA often. The department I was under at the time was moving the majority of people to Mexico and Brazil. After my separation, I heard from management from my prior department (off record) if they had known I was in jeopardy, they would have requested my move to their area. That made me mad. I am in a good position, as I do have a pension, 401K etc. But the reason for the letting me go was not performance, it was outsourcing.

What comp did the company give to you when you were walked out?

Been there.
No warning that they were unhappy, just “we don’t need your skills and experience any more.” (Ironically there were 3 job openings in other areas that DID need my skills and experience, and many more since.)

It’s not so easy getting another job as these young pups think, especially when you’re approaching 50 years old or have exceeded that age.

Ford doesn't want high achievers because you cost much.

Ford wants cheap labor Brazil, Mexico, India...

Who is going to buy Ford product?

I am sorry to hear of your being let go. Some people who post so callously have zero compassion and zero panache. I can only comment that perfect karma would be you be sh-t-canned unceremoniously.

It’s because your pay is too high for whatever pay grade you are at (Ford can hire someone for 1/2 pay to do your same job) or you made someone in management mad.

Fit or git! The bright side? You can now pursue a great career fit juxtaposed to having to always purse your lips.
