Thread regarding Illumina Inc. layoffs

How you feeling

Genuinely sad to see what is happening. How is everyone feeling? What can we do to help each other?

to the one individual with the comment "its a job". Maybe you were here solely to collect a paycheck. I have been here for almost 10 yrs, and there was a time I loved coming to work, and trying to make a difference. I walked around proud that I was a part of this company. Not so much these days. Did we need to downsize, Yes. We def needed to cut the layers within Mgmnt. It really was too much. Sup/Mgr/Sr Mgr/AD/D/VP a bit much. Did we need to go this quickly or in multiple sessions? I think it might have been better, if it was all done at once, to have 1 shock and try and recover. (IMO) I think that getting rid of a ton of people and in the same timeframe announce "Taste of Illumina" was a little on the distasteful side. Might have waited a few days. Just dont get it twisted that "Taste of Ilumina" is going to make it all better. :)

Exhausted. No longer believe that there is a medium/long term future for the company as it is. ELT clearly positioned for a takeover bid imo. They’re just quietly making sure they gain financially by throwing everything and everyone under the bus.

To person who replied with “go talk to a therapist” you clearly lack in compassion and emotional intelligence. Being made redundant is one of the hardest things an adult can go through and affects the wider audience too. Think before you type, your words can hurt. I doubt you would be so confident if you had your name above your comment.

it’s a job, that’s it. It’s all business. If you feel like you are having a hard time coping, go talk to a therapist.

Unfortunately no corporation will ever EVER care about the employee. So long as they are required to show shareholder value the employees are only seen as resources. Once I accepted this, it made me feel a lot more resilient and took things less personally.

Tired of hearing all the typical comments from the ELT about resilience. Tired of hearing that the best way through this is to focus on what we need to do.
