Thread regarding Illumina Inc. layoffs

I spent the whole day stressing

Am I the only one who doesn't even believe their manager or anybody in leadership anymore when they say it's over?

Company will launch the X plus plus, stock will dive again and at some point a decent management will take over to make it competitive and enable growth

So what are people doing about it? Are people making exit plans? I don't see it happening at as fast a rate as I expected. Why?? It is high time to act and get a better job before the sp500 crashes to lower lows and ilmn crashes to below 50. I know in my team people are pretending its business as usual and discussing work like as if nothing has changed ; the disconnect is jarring.

No.. I stopped believing my useless manager who wastes company money to fly to Singapore and enjoy two weeks vacation back in 2018... I stopped working hard.. got a degree... Worked two jobs .. and then left Illumina for a better job .. fu-k this company and fu-k my and most of the inept middle and upper management

It’s like the analogy of how a frog will immediately jump out of the pot if you place him in boiling water… but if you put him in a pot of RT water and bring it to a boil slowly, he will happily splash about while he cooks. Illumina is the pot, layoffs are the water and we are all cookin one centigrade at a time (ribbit) until we ultimately croak.

You can ask your manager all the questions and they can give you their best guess. Reality is that the managers have no input on who goes. Mgrs also do not find out about layoff until night before. Decisions being made director level and up.

You can believe them when they say it’s over. However, the “it” they’re referring to is the future of this company..

I’m lucky that I have a great manager who I do believe is being honest with us. That said, I don’t usually ask him questions like “is it really over?” because I know he doesn’t have a crystal ball

The ELT couldn't give a damn about the employees, it feels like they're positioning Illumina slowly and eventually for a buy out ina year or two. Regardless of the macro economics.
There will be more layoffs eventually, only a fool would think otherwise. It's best to find (relatively) safe harbour elsewhere eventually.

You can believe them when they say "this" RIF is over. It's complete and done, if you haven't been laid off, you're safe. But that does not they are forever done with RIF's. Just this one.

I don't believe a single word any of the ELT says.
