Thread regarding Illumina Inc. layoffs

Can I volunteer?

I am from Singapore. My bosses feel that I am not up to expectation for many quarters. My works and presentations are always scrutinized. I too, believe that I am a bad apple. But somehow, I kept surviving all these rounds of layoffs... When will my chance come?

How am I "gate keeping"? How am I preventing them from sharing "their truth"?

I'm sharing my opinion on "their truth" just like you are. I think it's tone deaf to go on here saying "poor me, I still have a job, wish I could volunteer." I especially think it's insulting to follow up and say you are bad at your job.

"When will my chance come?" Like for real? Just quit. Let someone who actually wants to work here have a job.

This person at one point responded in this thread "The point of the post is to ask if one can volunteers. Are you blind?" I have no empathy for this person.

No noble act is needed here, try telling "Empathy" to the writer of the below article. Where the best is being axed

"It’s sad to see some of brightest people being let go. How you keep morale up when you are laying off people every month? Sad"

Now someone who under perform
quarter after quarter keep the job.
Shamelessly, wishing to be axed is not this mockery to those who has lost their job.

Anyway if the writer aim is just to trigger a tense discussion it has been achieved.

Also stop being childish and stop ranting the racist card just become someone call a spade "a spade".

“This is not being "vulnerable" and it's pathetic you feel the need to coddle this person.”

Bro, I was one of the people impacted by the rif. It’s not “pathetic” for me to support this person, it’s called empathy. I don’t like bullies, so yes I will speak up when I see racist, ignorant people saying racist, ignorant garbage. This is supposed to be an anonymous and safe space for us to voice our feelings and concerns. We are all scared, obviously, though we might express it in different ways. Especially if communicating in a second language. What exactly makes you so qualified to gate keep who is allowed to share their truth here?

And do you want to know why this person has a job despite being a self-proclaimed "bad apple" and admitting to poor reviews by managers? Because the Singaporean government subsidizes their salary.

Illumina is laying off Americans and utilizing a foreign government to contribute to its payroll. It's disgusting. This incentivizes Illumina to not only hire Singaporeans, but also to retain them regardless of worse performance than their American peers.

While this isn't OP's fault, they could be a little more considerate. You probably are bad at your job, but luckily you have the Singaporean government paying part of your salary. Must be nice.

It's pretty tone deaf to say "When will my chance come" when others are praying they will still have a job.

And to follow up by saying your performance is poor. Almost reads as mocking. I mean why not just quit? Does a couple months of severance pay really change the calculus so much that you feel the need to stay? Or are you just fishing for reassurances?

This is not being "vulnerable" and it's pathetic you feel the need to coddle this person.

Ge-z I thought the dou--ebaggery only applied to top leadership, but I see from the comments here that I’m clearly off base.. OP, I’m sorry that people are being so ugly in response to your honest and vulnerable question. Just because this company is circling the drain doesn’t mean it’s time to go full cannibal on your peers. It’s not the little guys that are to blame - punch up, not down. They

Please quit so somebody that actually wants to be here can have a job. You're worthless.

Outsourcing jobs to Singapore and people like you that can't even communicate in English is the exact problem with Illumina. Just quit. The company will be better off without you.

You can’t volunteer for this round, since all the decisions were made weeks ago, and every name on the list went through legal review to flag for potential problems (no, I don’t know what kind of problems).

Singapore pays part of Illumina employees' salaries to incentivize Illumina hiring in Singapore. So that probably helps

"My bosses feel that I am not up to expectation"

This tells me your boss doesn't have an art to coach. This is why Illumina is not doing good as it has bad coaches.

I guess you could mention it to your manager and see if that helps you being sélected ?
Maybe your manager is pressuring you rather than really unhappy about your work.
I would ignore the comment above about boot li---r, some people did not get enough love when they were little. I give the boot li---r comment person a big hug it seems you need it.

Surprisingly you have survived your . bosses bearing down on you for many quarters.

You must have mastered the art of boot licking your bosses, usually they would give a PIP to boot anyone who fails to rub their ego.

About when will your chance come, it will never happen because your bosses will be deprived of one boot li---r to rub their high ego.
