Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Bulgaria, Shell sign contract for Black Sea gas and oil exploration

Is this a brilliant play for untapped gas reserves or asking for trouble in what is basically a war zone? After all, the Ukraine/Russia conflict wasn’t fully settled on or before 20 January 2025 like someone promised.

Prospects extending across the border in Turkey is not a big deal because since Shell has the license there is a 0% chance they are actually going to find commercial hydrocarbons

The Bulgaria license is not near Ukrainian waters. However - many of the prospects extend across the Turkey maritime border. If resources are discovered, it will be messy… likely a force majeure situation unless the two countries can quickly come to an agreement (doubtful)

Don't forget more recently Sakhalin... Right after the set of poisoning as-----nations, Russian government refusal to give permits and prevent license to operate, Jereon Vanderver "sold" 50% of the Sakhalin at a vastly discounted price.

Then after the Ukrainian war started, Shell was forced to sell the rest of Sakhalin-2 for about a billion dollars ( about 90% discount).
Hmmm.

I don't think Shell was part of the Aramco takeover thing in the 1980's.

The definition of own changes depending on the political boundary.

Maybe the EC members don’t recall the expropriation of RDS investments/assets by Mexico (1938) and Venezuela (1975).
Seems to be the recurring theme of the day: those that don’t remember history are doomed to repeat it (1933).
